Tech Thread

btw @MindzEye I think your take on Twitter/Threads is looking pretty bang on.....it'll continue to grow etc, as it gets better and better but the pace at which they've made updates/improvements is too far behind what I think it would have had to be to ride that early momentum.

It isn't looking like it could become the defacto place for breaking news, anytime soon....and as you said, is more likely to just cut out a niche of the market in the end.

Elon's surprisingly caught some decent momentum himself with twitter since Threads debuted.....monetization for creators, X rebranding, his outline of what he hopes to build it into, etc....all has won him some news cycles, Trump style.

Ok yes that is bad. I didn't know he was that involved with that stuff.

...on top of that he's responsible for creating a breeding ground for edgelord, misogynistic, racist bro-culture, and it's acceptance returning to the mainstream.....and then he's a MAGA-twat as well........so he's basically just a Boston-bro Clay Travis

He's also just a pretty vile dude, that is spawning a new generation of acolytes just like him...

I just heard him speak a few times and he's damn captivating and entertaining to listen to speak about anything. I never got the whole "toxic masculinity" vibe from him like I do with a Rogan type (Rogan is responsible for the "do your own research about shit you have zero clue about" culture as well which is even worse) but yeah that story is pretty ugly.

Funnily enough one of the clips I heard from him was him making fun of Trump. I wasn't aware of the maga stuff but it didn't sound like he was a big fan of his in that. Another where he bashed the fuck out of the GOP for the Roe v Wade stuff.

Didn't hear him sound particularly racist or misogynistic either but obviously the sample I listened to is nothing compared to the hundreds of hours of time he's been on air spouting off shit.

imo the twitter replacement we're all looking for is post Elon twitter after bankruptcy. None of the momentum you noted is leading to better quality advertisers on the platform (seriously, it seems like every ad on Xwitter is for a deeply sketchy company now) and a lot of it is pushing twitter towards the end (the monetization bit for example includes hand picked content creators only....lol), but twitter itself was such a powerful brand and platform in this space that it's going to take the corpse a long time to stop twitching.

But yeah, Threads always seemed like a wet fart to me. Zuck has built some of the most corrosive, shitty platforms on the internet (but profitable) and he was all of a sudden going to build one people actually liked, that was useful for more than simply being a time sink? Nah, it's not in his code.

The funny thing with Rogan is that he used to be a meathead who leaned pretty heavily left and so desperately wanted to be viewed as smart that he asked lots of Larry King-esque dumb questions to guests much smarter than him, and made him a great proxy for the audience to hear informative shit from his guests.

Then the dumb fuck had so many con-men on the show that played him like a fiddle telling him how smart he was (Jordan, both Weinsteins, Ben Shapiro, the list goes on) that he ended up being converted to the right without even really recognizing it. He was the useful idiot they needed to amplify their brands, and they just so happened to convert him in the process.

Also any good guests Rogan does have on now, he's less interested in asking them great questions, so much as diverting things off track to some topic he "knows" about, that the guest doesn't know anything about so he can steamroll them on the topic to make himself feel smarter. I haven't listened to a full episode in years now, because it's become so unlistenable.

He voted for Trump, and gave him a pretty soft-ball interview on his platform in an attempt to humanize him.......but did do a bit of an end around and bash them for RvW, and said Trump would be worse than Biden in 24'....

...but more than any racist shit him or his staff have said, he loves toeing the line and being racist adjacent (like most edgelords like him these days) so he can profit from making his space inviting to racists.

Ty this was very informative. Well there you go, have a little charisma and even ol' presto can find a man endearing even if he's a piece of shit.

Honestly I don't know much about this Portnoy fellow, but gosh bless him for Barstool Sportsbook & Casino. I've cleared I think around $10k churning their promos, WHICH DEFINITELY MEANS I'M NOT PRESTO, BECAUSE BARSTOOL IS NOT AVAILABLE IN CANADA YET!!!! And as we all know, it's impossible to lie on the internet.

Ya. This is my issue with him and barstool

Have to figure this new policy is a direct result of Elon being, in all likelihood, the most-blocked account on the entire platform.

Not to mention that a lot of people are blocking his “Twitter Blue” fanboys and bots on sight whenever they see blue check marks in the replies.

yeah, the block the blue movement is probably the bulk of this because the cry baby bitches paying 8 bucks a month were whinging about their numbers going down.

didn't see the "Readers added context" section when this was first posted, so maybe it was added later but that is fucking hilarious lol.

It definitely wasn’t there before.

So, reasonable bet that the “readers added context” feature is the next one Elon is going to nuke!
