The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Josh Anderson's agent: Darren Ferris.

But that 4 pts in 26 games is tough.

Could be a decent buy low. Would like to add Savard to this defense core. Would be a decent add to the top 4 and a pretty big upgrade on Ceci.

Thing is you can almost never "buy low" on the classic "rugged goalscoring winger". He'll fetch a pretty penny at the deadline, because plenty of GMs see him as a playoffs soluti9nm

Tbh, only posted that bc I wanted to see what you guys had to say.

Hey, it's worth discussing, for sure.

My shots were squarely at Lebrun for his opinion, not at you for posting it here.

Yep. This type of player is always heavily overvalued. I mean, the battered and broken corpse of Wayne Simmonds fetched a decent return at the deadline last year, and then got handed $5M by the Devils this summer.

Anderson's value would probably also be further inflated by his relatively low salary ($1.85M), which means he'd be easy for a lot of teams to squeeze under their cap this year, and it'd only cost you $2.1M to qualify him after this season and retain his RFA rights.

I don't want to see a trade Kapanen post for a week or so. MIght make me happy. Guy has a knack for the spectacular big time goals and he is one of the fastest skaters in NHL history.

Trade Johnsson. You don't trade Kapanen. And he is a bit tough as well. You don't trade that either.

I remember when my best friend growing up traded Russ Courtnall for John Kordic. I was so pissed at that trade, I barely spoke to Gordie after that.

I knew it was a Brophy/Ballard commanded trade, but I was still pissed at him.

You don't trade that kind of speed, no matter what. And Kapanen has some really nice in close finish. No Kapanen trade at all. Fuck Pesce.

If we moved Kappy for a quality defender i wouldn't mind seeing Anderson on that 3rd line.

Johnsson - Matthews - Marner
Mikheyev - Tavares - Nylander
Hyman - Kerfoot - Anderson
Moore - Spezza - Tima? Marchment? Engval?

Rielly - XXXX
Muzzin - Barrie
Dermott - Holl

If we can get a good defender for Ceci + Bracco + picks than even better. The caveman in me would love a face masher on this team. Someone to slap Marchand in the playoffs. I know i know how we dont NEED it.

We need to get a face masher on D. Forwards are good, we don’t need anyone per se. Just someone to crush Marchand in the d zone.

Don't let anyone try to tell you Auston suddenly became elite this year. He's been super elite from the start.

The only difference this year is more minutes and a stacked top PP unit, like every other star has always had.

CJ:

There isn’t much point in wading too deep into the MVP debate with three months left in the regular season, but Matthews is clearly among a group of serious challengers that includes Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, David Pastrnak and Jack Eichel, among others.

Hadn’t heard about this at all:

What made his performance so special against Winnipeg is that he’s currently playing through an undisclosed injury, according to a source, which is why he left Tuesday afternoon’s practice after 10 minutes. So it was at something less than 100 per cent where he skated for a career-high 25:41 while generating eight of his team’s 28 shots on goal, and 13 attempts overall.

How often does Marchand get crushed though? The player that can physically manhandle the best players in the league doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah it's really changed. even guys like Tucker don't exist anymore. The game has changed so much.
Adam Foote would be useless in the NHL nowadays.

Yeah, I mean don't get me wrong I would love a Pronger or Chara, but I just don't see that player out there today.

In the NHL players poll last year the players voted as the toughest to play against were McDavid, Crosby, Bergeron, MacKinnon and Kopitar.

Defenseman who are big, intimidating and who can "mash faces" while also being able to skate and move the puck (especially to the point where they could keep up with our group) are basically unicorns in the modern NHL.

Oddly enough, LOF despises the closest thing we have to that kind of player (Jake Muzzin).

Now, you can still find plenty of immobile slugs who play a hard-nosed style. We had Roman Polak for years, and we've currently got Ben Harpur stashed in the AHL. But those kind of players would be lucky to land one big hit on a Brad Marchand for every 10 goals Marchand scores against them.
