The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

We don't need Dillon, or any other dman for that matter.

Honestly, especially with Muzzin likely back shortly after the all-star break, subtracting a defenseman or two would be more helpful than adding someone from outside the organization.

Keep playing Sandin & Liljegren, and end the goddamned fascination with playing Ceci & Marincin every night.

It's honestly amazing how much rope the goalie gets in this market.

I flipped on "Overdrive" at 5pm after leaving work, and the Overdrive crew & Ray Ferraro quickly launched into a discussion about how Keefe's "offensive system" just obviously doesn't work, and the team needs to figure out how to play better defensively.

Made it a couple of minutes before I had to shut it off. Nary a mention of Freddie's disastrous performance for the past month.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Listening to these guys, they've completely parted ways from reality.

Once Freddy comes out of this, the Leafs will suddenly be "better defensively".

If you want crazy ...... I just visited hb, and there were some who were proposing a trade between the leafs and oilers ....

They were talking about a marner for nurse deal, only if the leafs ate around 4 million of marners deal.

They also mentioned that nylander would also be a possible if there was something else coming their way.

Has the alberta government allowed their citizens to be out there peddling halucinogenics to their fans?

Wondered why I dont frequent that place anymore lol.

I would love to have nurse or ritsolanan (?) of buffalo. But neither is worth that kind of payment.

Btw .... I would be listening to offers for kerfoot.
Not impressed with him at all.

Jmho.

The trade proposals on HF are always hilarious.

As for Kerfoot, I have to agree. If he can't effectively fill our third line center role, I'm not sure what the point of him is. If it comes to having to move out any of our forwards with "middle-class" NHL salaries, I certainly wouldn't take him ahead of Johnsson or Kapanen.

It all feels very familiar.

Never forget that, on the eve of his second season with the Leafs, there were articles talking about how Vesa Toskala was a top-5 NHL goalie and, of course, the team MVP, the only reason they could win any games, etc.

This market, at least for my entire life, always crucifies defenseman and deifies the goaltender on this team.

Yeah, of the 3 I’d trade Kerfoot first. I guess Engvall and Mikheyev would draw some interest too.

It's definitely always been the narrative here, but I can't remember a time when it's been worse. Even Raycroft and Toskala took some heat eventually, although it took way way too long.

Freddy is completely immune.

To be fair, fred has never been toskala or raycroft bad.

And also, to be fair, babcock's leafs were bad defensively.

It's really annoying that Keefe's improvements have been sabotaged by freddy imploding. But once we get some good goaltending along with the defensive improvement I do think the narrative will change.

I do think at least the illusion of Freddy's infallibility has been punctured for the first time.

The Leafs best NHL offensive firepower pads Freddy's win totals. He carries nothing. Most overrated Leaf by far.
What's also funny is once he struggles, it's about him being "Tired". Is he tired every October?

If twitter is any indication, yeah. If the Toronto media is any indication....not really no. There's a few who are willing to blame Fred's shit play, but there's a bucketload of apologists.

Lets all be honest, if Freddy continues being the Danish cupcake, our season is doomed.

Never really liked the guy. He was pretty solid at times, but I gotta say, Reimer was a lot more likeable. Guy really seemed like a guy who cared.

And Mcilhenney? Boy, that guy really was a guy who cared. Not going to forgive Dubas any time soon for that decision.

Robertson and Sandin, yeah great wins. but Dubas, dude, you gotta have goaltending.

St. Louis is the number one brand for one very good reason. Jordan Binnington and they are doing it without Tarasenko, who is a terrific hockey player.

Eye test only. I like Kerfoot. For a rich kid, he plays a greasy game. And he wheels and deals.

I loved Kadri, really really did. But damn, he gave the refs no choice with what he did.

But he stood up, I will always love Naz. I always loved Bozak too, Was real happy for him winning a Cup. I loved JVR also.

Good players, good Leafs.

And Kessel? Man, that guy played some great hockey for us. Watch his career, as well. Hope he does well, always.

As you get to be an older guy like I certainly am. You start to appreciate the the game of hockey, not just your team.

I love what this Jordan Binnington has done for the city of St. Louis. The blues.

We need a top end goaltender. We had it, until recently, I have no idea what is wrong with Frederick the not so recently great. But he had some greatness in him.

Sure as shit hope he rediscovers it. For the franchise, he has to.

Gotta say Corey Crawford sure looked excellent the other night. He stoned tons of real good chances. And they have Robin Lehner? And they still have Kane and Toews playing high level hockey?

Keep an eye on them.

Elliotte:

4. There’s been a lot of talk about Kasperi Kapanen, but the sense around the NHL is the only way Toronto moves him now is in a big deal. Something that makes them significantly better.

5. I also think the Maple Leafs have been asked about their UFA-to-be defenders — Tyson Barrie, Cody Ceci and Jake Muzzin. I don’t see Toronto falling out of the race, so the only way anything happens here is if they are convinced one of the younger defencemen needs a permanent big-minutes spot. (The three all play 20 minutes per night.) No confirmation from either side, but it sounds like there is engagement in contract conversations with Muzzin. There’s no debate about his value and unique skillset on this roster. Term is as big as the salary, as Muzzin will be 31 next month.

We'd be smart to dump Ceci now and let Sandin or Lilly just take a shot.

We'd be dumb to extend Muzzin right now. He's not exactly a candidate to age well. He's sort of already falling off a cliff this year, and now with a broken foot? No thanks. Save the money for Pietrangelo, for fuck sake.
