The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Trading Johnsson for Lehner would be so bad on so many levels. Huge pass.

Chicago is in better position than we are at this point. They have two goaltenders, we might not have even one

Am I the only one in the GTA that sees that we might have no NHL goalies right now?

I am not certain, but Johnsson might pass waivers. Guy is sorta fried. And exposed. Lehner can lift a team.

Is he bipolar? Yeah I guess so. But look at this guys stats.

$7M seems a little steep for Lehner. As good as he's been the last couple of years, it's been as a platoon starter.

I also wonder if the level of interest in him will have fundamentally changed since last summer, or if old-school front-offices will still be terrified of his history of mental illness and substance abuse. It certainly doesn't seem like the Hawks are in a hurry to pay him.

You can also toss in the fact that there's currently a lot of decent goalies slated to become UFA's this summer (Holtby, Markstrom, Greiss, Halak, Khudobin), as well as some veteran reclamation projects (Howard, Talbot, Smith) competing with Lehner for contracts & jobs.

I don't think he'll get 7 either, but you kind of have to entertain less than perfect scenarios when you're talking about stuff like this. Yeah, Lehner could end up on some sort of a steal of a contract like 3/15 with a crowded goalie market and the legit question of whether he's an elite 1A or an elite #1

I don't think the move is to sign a 29 year old goalie to a long term deal for $7+ mill.

The ideal situation is to find a young goalie that can share the load and take over in 2021.

There are 10 goalies making $6+ mill this year. Only 2 have a save percentage above .910. Its not good value. Goalies are too unreliable, and thats a lot of money to pay a below average player.

You need to spread that cap space over two quality goalies, that may not win a Vezina but can give you 82 good games. Dubas' biggest mistake has been committing to relying so heavily on one guy every year. In that scenario you have no choice but to take the bad with the good.

Doubling down eh?

If we had done something similar last summer (and traded high on Fred after a 3rd playoff flop in a row, like I had suggested at the time), we would sitting between 65-68 points right now. This offence has been carrying bad goaltending for the last 8 weeks.

I like Johnsson too, but he's not the type of difference maker that a goalie as good as Lehner is. A meh 1B that is just a Hutch upgrade might not be enough to salvage the goaltending, and the season at this point. Even if we make this playoffs with this gong show in net, we'd be damn fortunate to get out of the first round with it. We're not winning shit without someone who can stop the puck at a high level for 6 weeks.

I'm open to names, but the only one I've heard (Georgiev), isn't the guy. There aren't a lot of young goalies in the league with an established track record of any sort of quality, that anyone is trading.

Damn I wish you were the GM of this team bro. Then I could sit back... And just enjoy. Goaltending, Lehner agree completely.

Sell high.. Sell high all the time. Always.

Fall in love with something maybe, but not stock or players. They come and they go.

Joe Sakic, anyone laughing at that guy now? Guy has done a great job.

Sell, and buy. And smile.

Get a Binnington and win. We don't have anything close to a Binnington, as far as I can see. Nowhere in sight. Joseph Woll? Good god.

I'm just saying thats the ideal. If you cant find that then you sign a vet platoon like Khudobin, Halak, Greiss, Talbot for less. Having a backup that can play 40 games and ease the load has done wonders for guys like Bishop, Rask, Lehne/Varlamov etc, and for teams not having to rely on one guy and live through the struggles.

The media right now is unbearable with the ridiculous Leaf takes.

They need to go on a run here to silence this crap

We need goaltending and Fred generally gave it for us.

Heck Carey Price at this best, made Montreal almost unbeatable.

For the life of me, I just don't understand why goaltending is not treated with more concern, due diligence, respect etc....

When Keefe took over and Fred was playing well, 100%, I believed we were the best team in the NHL.

Not by a long shot, but by a good spit.

We all go through streaks, but what I am not liking on my eyetesting, is seeing him back up in the crease as much as he is now.

Saw my ole buddy(never met him actually lol) Reimer go through that. Wasn't pretty.

Confidence is so much in sports, Fred might have lost his.

The credibility of any list is destroyed if they have Jim Benning as the 3rd ranked NHL GM.

Benning’s an odd one though. He signs some of the dumbest UFA contracts in the league, but he’s slammed some absolute home runs at the draft table in recent years.

Sorokin would be someone I would be looking to pry from Lou

Rumor has it he has no interest in playing second fiddle or sharing the net with Varlamov (or anyone) and wants a path to be a starter.

KHL goalies always have question marks but this guys numbers have been outstanding for years

i think you can "delete draft" under the disk icon but it doesn't disappear until you refresh.

but still annoying. and I'm not sure it works on mobile.

Yeah, I've said it before that there's a weird dichtomy between the amateur & professional scouting.

Was helped by the brain dead move by Jim Rutherford trading *FOR* Gudbranson (a 4 million dollar stiff) and giving Benning a decent servicable forward in return.

Fred. Has been pretty good for us. So I am pretty surprised at how inept he has been lately.

When I see guys crawling backwards, into the net. It sends up red flags.

I hope he doesn't have groin problems, but guess what?

ALmost every goalie at some point does.

Who has the cure for that?

Not me, not me at all. Would never claim that..;

But someone in the GTA does and its pretty important. Guy lives in Vaughn. Cold laser, deep deep penetratrion.

Tesla, the real Tesla stuff added. But he is cagey and doesn't trust anyone. Rarely ventures out. Has had enough hassles in his life.

Floydian Leaf cured 48,000 people from certain death, look what that got him.

No good deed goes unpunished.

You wanna make a ton of bank, push something toxic, never a cure.
