The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

The Panthers are like us in many ways .... If the Bob or Andersen gets red hot come playoff time.... lenghty damage can be done by either

Based on Andersen's rolling sv% I don't have much confidence in him being able to put together a 3 month run

Andersen's long cold stretches are ridiculously long. I feel only people on this board notice this.
And i laugh at the "Tired" excuse he always gets. Is he tired every October?

If Anderson is as shitty as people here believe, we should be throwing an equal amount of hate towards Dubas who has been around for a bit now and has yet to truly solve the goaltending issue. I mean, we have needed a 2nd goalie for a while now and being slow to the trigger this year with that, along with firing Babcock way too late may lead to a lost season.

Andersen for his cap hit is fine. I think this board has hate for him due to the backlash of media and fan love.
Yes, the backup is a far bigger issue. We need help now.
That said, no way in hell do I want Andersen signed for 7 years at 8 million per + next contract

I am going to lean towards the "it isnt as easy as one may think to get a good #1, let alone a good #2 goalie" argument.

Dubas hands were semi tied with the Nylander,Matthews and Marner negotiations forthcoming to deal with a goalie crisis.. He had a $5M goalie.. he wasnt going to have a $5M backup with those important contracts looming.

It's been mentioned a few times around here that Dubas should have fixed the goaltending by now, and that it's one of the blemishes on his record.

And heh at you flipping from "Babcock was not the problem, Dubas built a flawed team" to "Dubas fired Babcock way too late"

Dubas deserves blame for not addressing the goaltending issue when he had the chance

Not so sure we can point fingers for not ditching Babs sooner. There was obviously an internal struggle with that decision that went above Dubas

The concerning thing is its an organizational problem. The Marlies have goaltending issues too.

The one thing Lou deserves credit for is he always stacks the organization with goaltending depth. Dubas inherited a situation with strong goaltending throughout the organization. Andersen/McElhinney/Sparks/Pickard/Woll/Scott.

Dubas has not done a good job in either recognizing goaltending talent (Sparks over McElhinney, Neuvrith, Hutch), or recognizing the importance of goaltending (not adding a single goalie to any level of the organization in the offseason, not spending a meaningful draft pick on a goalie in 2 years).

The Sparks call was the right call. You take that gamble every time in that situation. The other two though yes those are an issue

But the problem is it wasn't the right call though. It was clearly the wrong call. They completely missed on their evaluation of Sparks talent and potential at the next level.

I mean if you scouting is no better than what fans looking at hockeydb can do then that isn't really helpful

Thing is, nerd shit for goaltending sucks. Entirely unreliable. And clearly whatever data the leafs are using for goaltending and the importance of goaltending is suspect at best. Because the guy just doesn't seem to give a fuck about that position. And as 101 said, his evaluation of goaltenders seems to suck ass too.

Still would like to see if coming up under Keefe would have been better for sparks. Both in terms of the quality of play in front of him, and in terms of the mental and emotional support.
