Freddy out with a neck injury per Keefe

Wont travel with the team and Hutch goes against the Rangers

Now glasses is in an even worse bargaining position. But it may legit be worth overpaying at this point.

My guess is the asks have been too high as no one was in any rush, and Dubas figured they would come down by the deadline. This kind of fucks things up though, especially if Freddy is out a while. Teams are going to know he's desperate and if he waits til the deadline they might be out of it. Bit of a disaster.

Also lets put overpaying in context. Goalies never have high trade value to begin with.

Legit young starters like Freddy or Grubauer go for a late 1st or as part of a salary dump.

Yeah I'm no tsaying to trade Kapanen for Ryan Miller. I mean.. A 3rd instead of a 4th or some shit.

Or yeah, you can shoot for a better goalie (someone that can challenge Freddy), but that is probably more likely to be done in the summer. It should have been done last summer though. Glasses fucked up big.

Money that tomorrow the Rangers start Georgiev.

And I bet the leafs light him up.

Safe bet.

For the past two years, Georgiev has been starting every game against the Leafs for the Rags.

It started out because Lundqvist, for whatever reason, has always been hot garbage against any version of the Leafs. But I don't doubt that there's some element of the Rangers show-casing him against Toronto this season.

As for "lighting him up", the Leafs have won 6-3 and lost 5-4 in their two games against Georgiev this year, so he hasn't exactly been a brick wall against us. Though he did make 44 saves in that 5-4 victory.

stats nerds, I have someone telling me how Nylander is still not worth his contract and points to Pastas 6.6mil as a guide. Signed one year apart, much different usage until Keefe came along.... This all started by me saying you can't fill a hand with players as good as Willie signed for under 7M a year who produce like him. What can I show them?

Neither Pastrnak or Nylander are worth their contracts. They are worth much more. You couldn't sign either guy for under $7 mill today.

For one, if Pasta is the standard for a 6.6 million dollar player then every single player in the NHL is significantly overpaid, including McDavid. That is a really really really stupid argument. You could do something similar and say Kevin Hayes makes 7.5 million and he's a 40 point player. I guess Nylander is underpaid now. That would be an equally terrible argument but you're not doing anything different than the other person.

But yeah, Nylander is very obviously underpaid. Market value for a guy like him is 8mil at absolute minimum.

Yeah, that's about it.

"Willy isn't worth his contract" and "Willy isn't as good a deal as Pastrnak" are two completely unrelated arguments.

Babe's buddy's argument is the equivalent of saying that Pasta's not a good deal because he makes more than Brad Marchand.

The problem with their argument is that it presumes Pasta is earning his contract, when in fact he is vastly exceeding it.

Pasta faces tougher competition, is benefiting from on ice SH%, and has been more productive on the PP. Willy has a better xG, shot share, is a better playmaker.

And Willy's production under Keefe hasn't been all that different than Pastrnak (which seems to validate the underlying nerd shit).

But that's not the point. I wouldn't use either as examples of market value 6.5-7m players. They're both far better than that.

Trick question - pastrnak signed a bad deal from day one.

That being said...

ELC

Nylander: 185gms, 48gls, 135pts (82gms, 21gls, 60pts)
Pastrnak: 172gms, 59gls, 123pts (82gms, 28gls, 59pts)

No one is underpaid . You ink term and big money to get financial security and ride the possible bad years

Willy got 18 mil in 10 months , did he give back any money for his lousy year last year ?

Is Benn prepared to give back 1/2 his salary in Dallas cause that's all he is worth now ?

If you want to know what your worth sign 1 year deals and hope you don't get hurt and take your chances
