The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Your hatred of Barrie is blinding your objectivity. He's an adventure in his own end but definitely really good on the power play.

Yeesh. Terrible. Why would I hate him when I was thrilled with the trade when we got him? I was advocating extending him immediately because I thought he might get 70-80 points playing with these guys. Must be something I’ve been watching for the past 66 games that turned me, right? What form of bias could I possibly have against him?

I’m scared to death TB or Boston will rape us with him back there, but now that we’re stuck with him I’m quietly hoping he’ll find another gear in the playoffs somehow. Though I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to win in spite of trash like him, Spezza, and Clifford on the roster.

I mean, bos and TB have trash just like them in the same spots on their roster.

Trash that we haven’t been able to dominate in two straight series. Barrie is too fucking dangerous against even the worst teams, so I’m not confident with him against that Boston line.

He's not good at hockey. The fact that you defend him like this is fascinating to me.

We were all excited at the time of the trade, but after watching him all season, the prevailing view of most observers that this union hasn't "worked out" isn't just some uninformed or biased view. If he was so good at hockey, there's no way Sakic just throws him into that deal and even retains. There's no way the rumor mill was churning that Dubas was looking to unload him but couldn't get a decent offer, if there wasn't some legit smoke behind it. When something is too good to be true, like it seemed it was at the time of the deal, we should've known better. And to pretend now like the guy isn't a disaster defensively, or is an elite player offensively, is silly. He's the same guy who couldn't buy a point for half a season, until they gave him the spot on PP1, probably just to showcase him.

Wall to wall ridiculous, including spinning Joe Sakic themed fairy tales and trusting the likes of Dreger et all to actually have a fucking clue.

and 5 on 5...

People massively undervalue transition. There are 3 zones, not 2. Barrie is outstanding in transition. It's weird how quickly people forget how shit we used to look trying to break out of our own zone last season (mind you, the same fucking guy shitting on Barrie, carried Zaitsev's water for almost a full 2 years) and how effortlessly we do it now. Some of it is system (the willingness to turn back instead of just chip and chase, is big...but Hainsey and Zaitsev couldn't have done that effectively either), but some of it is skill. Barrie is one of the better RHD in the league at getting the puck up ice and it brings tons of impact with it. I don't love his shot selection, and he's below average at defending in his zone, but transition is ridiculously important and he's legitimately elite at it.

Yeah, sure, transition is our problem. You don’t need to conjure the ghosts of Zaitsev and Hainsey to make a silly point when we have enough dmen who can transition with ease while not being a fucking disaster in the D zone. So yay, Barrie can skate from one side of the neutral zone to the other. What a star. Marchand and Pasternak salivate over the prospect of having this guy defend against them.

I mean Barrie is good for $2.75 mill in sheltered minutes, but I'm not sure I want to be the team that gives him or Krug big money to be a big minute dman. Will likely work out the same as Shattenkirk.

Its crazy that they get such favorable matchups but still give up an insane amount defensively to the point that are net negative impact 5v5 players by rel xG. These guys are what people thought Gardiner was.

The truth is somewhere in between what LOF and zeke think. He's not terrible, but I wouldn't call him "good" either. He's fine.

On his worst day, poor Gardiner was never as bad as Barrie. I miss the healthy version of Jake. He was great.

So Campbell is going to get 2 starts this road trip? LA/ANA are back-to-back on Thurs/Fri.
