The Expansion Draft

I'm not surprised we haven't made a big trade (or any trade), I am surprised so many teams haven't yet ... then I realized teams have until 3pm tomorrow instead of midnight tonight to finalize their submission.

Pffttt ... guess we'll see more trades tomorrow.
In BG's last post he said 3pm today. Is he wrong?

No, 17 is wrong.

The trade freeze went into effect at 3PM on Saturday, and it doesn't lift until Thursday morning.

During that time period, teams can make deals with Vegas, but that's it.

Florida is a mess. That's why I don't view them as a contender next season. Their management is idiotic.

They didn't protect Marchessault either.

That would be the hitch with going through Vegas to get a guy like Demers.

Florida also left Marchessault (30 goals/50 points this past season) and Reilly Smith (40-50 point forward) exposed, so you might not necessarily be getting Demers for cheap. Whatever you offer Vegas, they'd have to like it better than whatever else they can pick off Florida's roster.

The flip-side to that is that they might not be crazy about Marchessault, as he's a pending UFA.

And then Rielly Smith is just starting a five year/$5M AAV contract after dropping back to 37 points this past season. Vegas may not want to make that kind of financial commitment to a middling forward.

Smith and Demers have big long contracts. I bet they'd be happy to get out of either of those. Neither of them were even good this year.

Vegas probably takes Marchessault. He's cheap, and with another 20-30 goal year thats a 1st at the deadline.

Yep. 20-30 goals, ~50 points and a 750K cap hit on an expiring contract?

That's a nice asset to farm out for draft picks at the deadline.

The guy who was supposed to compile the lists for the NHL was probably out all night in Vegas, and is now passed out on the floor of his hotel room.

They're saying Vatanen and Manson were both left unprotected by the Ducks but the belief is that they have a deal with Vegas.

And Preds left James Neal unprotected... but same thing, they're thinking a deal will be made.

Mass confusion and non belief amongst league officials that the Hawks would protect Tomas Jurco is reported reason for the delay.

No one understands.
