The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

the only saving grace for McCabe is we are paying him Holl money to be nowhere near as good as Muzz.

but I'm not even sure he's much better than Holl. I guess Holl is due for a raise next year, so replacing Holl with McCabe for the same salary is fine in a vacuum, but agreed he's been a pretty major disappointment.

and, if McCabe cannot be our shutdown guy, then there really was not any need to acquire him as our D was pretty awesome beforehand.

that is the salient point. when they couldn't make Ekholm work, or chose not to make it work (IMO what actually happened), they addressed depth instead. Keefe obviously isn't a huge fan of pending UFA Holl, and now they have a cost controlled replacement.

The more frustrating thing is that now the best bet to replace Muzz is likely Lilly, but he's as likely to be out of the lineup as in.

So far McCabe has been maybe Holl-caliber which is a fine player, just not what they needed. I get why they went after a potential shutdown Muzzin type and fully supported it, but if McCabe isn't that then he's pretty redundant on this roster. Just another guy to add to the pile of what they already have.

I'm willing to be patient with him though. I think he could have more in him than this.

Even he has looked bad the last few.

Kind of makes the case for McCabe. He may well have looked great if we didn’t completely lose our identity after he came.

The style of play is concering and rolling into the playoffs playing like this is not ideal but I also have a hard time buying into the theory that management have bought into just win baby after years of being a nerdie driven team

I'm fully relaxed with McCabe. He's been bad but I think there's upside there. Not controversial to say that they need him to be much better than this though, otherwise it defeats the purpose of all of their trades outside of the ROR one.

I can't say the same about their final three trades though. I just don't see the upside in any of those moves. Nor do I see much upside in a guy like Lafferty stealing minutes.

I'm ribbing zeke about it, but I seriously don't think the abrupt shift to a more defensive gudpro lineup came from Dubas. we know what kind of guys he likes and they've been steadily adding guys who are not that in recent months. We know what kind of lineup he likes, and record aside the lineup certainly hasn't been that this year. Even more so now after the deadline.

if it gets dynamited this year I bet we will hear later that Shanahan was heavily involved in roster decisions.

Somebody mentioned Jarnkrok earlier, along with stats that he is on his way to personal records in points. With all the worry at the signing that he was washed-up, nice to see him playing well for $2.1/season.

we never saw a Brodie-Lilly pair eh? that would be the logical attempt.

Gio-Lilly have played together and I assume dominated, but I want to save old man Gio a bit, worried he's gonna run out of steam.

Lafferty is so fucking useless out there. My goodness. Hopefully come playoff time he blocks like eight shots a game with his dick or something, dunno how else he'll add any value. Or his face. Who knows.

yeah the thing for the kroker that I like is he's not a total liability in our top-6, and has the finish to contribute with JT/Mucho etc.

once he got over whatever his early season injury was that made him skate like he was in molasses, I've been pretty pleased.

of course, his playoff numbers are historically brutal, so that remains an ongoing concern.

I'm good with whatever he wants to use. but yeah Acciari has been way better even though both are ostensibly 4th liners.

They seemed to have a tough time identifying useful bottom 6 guys this year. Simmonds Hunt, Aube Kubel, ZAR and Lafferty have been duds

They had plenty of Lafferty's in their organization that have never been given a leash as long as Lafferty has thus far. That's the frustrating bit. Joey Anderson is Lafferty with potential additional upside but he was barely given a sniff.

Acciari is excellent though.
