The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

LOF makes a compelling case against them in one of the most significant posts to hit ForumIce since Ben Hoglund introduced us to credit card churning
Oh. Yeah. Didn't see it then.

I challenge him to say that with some of these doe eyed Latinas.

Doesn't matter the color, matters the shade.

I agree with @Preston. It's not like Dubas discovered Auston playing junior B hockey in Sarnia and rescued him from a lifetime of servitude as an Uber driver

I'm sure he has better, closer friends in the US. If the decision is about personal relationships and being closer to people he likes, then he ain't staying.

Luckily I don't think that will factor heavily on his decision. Leafs will offer him whatever he wants and he'll sign it.

I still don't get why getting along with a GM matters here, I agree with Habsy. He doesn't deal with Dubas at all unless he's negotiating a contract which happens 1-3 months every 5-8 years. What does it matter if Dubas is in Toronto or not? It's a decision that goes well beyond a simple friendship with a guy that he will barely see or speak to if he signs with Toronto IMO.

If I'm making a decision where to spend 7 or 8 years, I think it's an advantage to have a GM who Matthews reportedly has a rapport/trust built with in terms of the direction of the team, that's all.

But any other team he signs with wouldn't have Dubas either. But if Dubas is fired that means they lost in the first round again, which I could see as a reason to not rush into resigning.

This was kinda my point though.

Big name UFAs usually stay with their teams. I'm sure a huge part of it is money, there's no denying that, but I have to think there's also a comfort in re-signing with a GM you have trust in putting a team around you. Reportedly he does.

Otherwise, everyone's on equal ground in that sense.

Man nerd twitter is a real shitshow today with the Leafs bashing. Makes me look like a giant homer by comparison. If you dig a little deeper I don't think it's too hard to diagnose their issues.

Ultimately, they've replaced 13 minutes of Engvall with 13 minutes of Lafferty up front. That is a massive downgrade and I could see why that would crater their nerdies, particularly in the bottom 6. Having a black hole on the 3rd and 4th line can kill any team and the Leafs have been no exception. I think they can fix this issue by burying Lafferty and playing basically anyone else up there.. Acciari, for one. Immediately that 3rd line gets significantly better IMO.

On D, they've added McCabe and he has struggled so far. He has played very difficult minutes and has not fared well. You can fix this by putting Liljegren in those difficult spots or being patient and hoping McCabe gets comfortable. I think trusting Timmy a lot fucking more goes a long way towards fixing that. I want to see him with Brodie.

And then you've had Schenn getting minutes that a guy like Timmins was getting and that's gonna hurt the teams offensive numbers. Gus hasn't been very good either and losing 18mpg of Ras is gonna be a hit offensively obviously. The fix there is to just play your best players. Timmins should be getting these extra looks, not Schenn, but this is my most unrealistic hope or expectation.
