The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Not gonna deny that it's fair to question the Leafs. But by the logic of assuming another first round exit, it wouldn't even be the Leafs that face them!
The only thing I like about their crazy domination is that somehow teams like that end up falling on their faces in the playoffs.

I really hope they do somehow lose a fluky first round series without our having to go through them. If it's TB and then any other teams the rest of the way other than Boston, I like our chances against anyone.

I feel like Boston has been dominant in a different way than Florida was last year. I feels effortless. Mind you we seem to play them well so who knows.

The annoying thing is that pre deadline you could see some real holes in the bruins. Their old guys arent what they were and their depth was putting up some unsustainable numbers. But man they really bolstered the depth.

The good news is that the old guys really arent what they were, their goalie isnt actually a .940 goalie. Depth is nice but its usually the big boys that win you a cup and thats riding mostly all on Pastrnak and McAvoy.

Also, Boston gets a whole lotta playoffs credit for winning a cup....TWELVE years ago.

Yeah, but this year Pasta is the 60 goal scorer and Matty is hoping to hit 40...

the other difference would be that they have more than double the goal differential of the next best team, and are crushing it in the not-close games too - they haven't been outscored by more than 3 goals in any game this year, while outscoring their opponents by more than 3 goals 23 times.

thankfully, their nerdies aren't quite that ridicuously good.

The way he's going and so close to the 60 mark, I'd bet on him making it, but whatever, even just 56 is still close enough.

here's how 5v5 paces compare, given that in the playoffs the other game situations usually balance out mostly, and that only so many players can get PP time.

p.s.

5v4 PP goals / xgoals for per 60min

TBK 8.91 (#4) / 7.50 (#2)

4v5 PK goals / xgoals against per 60min

BOS 4.66 (#1) / 5.97 (#1)
TOR 5.95 (#10) / 6.32 (#2)

Acciari and ZAR seem to be really standing out defensively, especially given their deployment. Kampf and lafferty not as much, though they've been getting more extreme usage. Also, kampf and lafferty have been playing more than they will be if we stay healthy. They should look better in reduced roles.

biggest concern there is that the trio of Tavares, Nylander, and Bunting (even though they weren't always playing with each other) seem to have fallen apart offensively (especially in terms of primary points) and especially defensively, despite cushy usage.

A Kerf-ROR-Acciari unit really has some defensive upside, but i'm not sure there will be much offense there.

Brodie is just kinda elite tbh. McCabe looks quite good too. Gio-Holl have done well in tough deployment, though it's their offense carrying them more than their defense.

Rielly obviously the biggest issue right now, which includes whoever his partner is going to be.

people have really been ignoring the fact that the Leafs have been experimenting quite a bit, since their matchup has been set for a while now. certainly Lafferty looks pretty bad, but ZAR has always been in there for the PK and has looked a lot better lately. you're always going to give ice-time to new acquisitions to get a look at them anyway.

i also hadn't heard this, but McMann got hurt again on March 21 and is now on LTIR.
