The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Man looking at Timmins overall season numbers and he had a hell of a season for a guy that got benched for the year.

xGF%: 56.3 (3rd on team)
xGA/60: 2.15 (2nd)
p/60: 1.61 (1st)
PP p/60: 8.25 (1st)

But,

onice Save%: .876. So he gets benched.

we signed him so we could play him next year....maybe. or maybe in 2yrs. or probably never.

The play of Lilly & Sandin when Rielly & Brodie were out and the play of Timmins since we’d acquired him was why I was firmly against trading for any defensemen at all at deadline.

But sure, dump Sandin for nothing, turn Timmins into the new Frankie Corrado & Lilly into the 7th defenseman, and shoe-horn Schenn, McCabe and Gustafsson in there. Why not?

I still get the McCabe add. Despite the good play of Sandin Lilly Timmins I still wouldn't want to need to depend on any of them on a top matchup pairing against the Bolts or Bruins. Targeting a guy they thought could fill that role still makes sense.

but yeah, Sandin-Lilly looking like a legit top pair when all the injuries hit and then Dubas complaining about a lack of depth (and specifically mentioning that time we had all the injuries) come deadline was super bizarre.

McCabe is the one I have the least issue with (aside from the fact Lafferty came along with him). But the assets & cap space to acquire him were still an opportunity cost that I would have preferred re-directing to more improvements up front.

His acquisition is also what effectively pushed out Sandin.

I agree with all of this

if it was McCabe in (no Lafferty), and Sandin out (no Gus), I think I'd be totally fine with that.

Ekholm was the play. Instead we let the Oilers get him (14-2 since).

To be fair, the difference-maker for the Oilers is that they were able to do the deal with essentially no retained salary.

Not sure there was really any way for us to pull that off with Ekholm’s 3x$6.25M deal.

Still, it is a real piss off that Holland pulled off a great deal for exactly what the Oilers needed instead of the usual Duncan Keith/Kris Russell-esque trash he acquires.

McCabe at 2 might very well be better than Eckholm at 6 given our cap structure going into the deadline.

Our blueline problem is that we didn't stop there and felt the need to demote Lilly for Schenn and trade Rasmus for meh futures.

yeah I don't actually have a problem replacing Sandin with McCabe. giving away Sandin for a 32nd overall is annoying as hell tho.

and yeah for sure Ekholm is a pure beast. epic add.

The D is still one of the best in the league. Not just McCabe, but Timmins also made Sandin expendable as he is a Sandin that isn't small or shit defensively.

But yeah, just a terrible trade.
