The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Willy put up 18 pts in 8 games at the 2019 WHC playing LW. He beat out Kucherov (fresh off a 128pt NHL regular season) for the tournament scoring lead in 2 less games.

Why don't we ever try him on the left?

Not sure I like this.

Can’t see how these lines won’t result in reduced even strength minutes for Willy.

hell i'm not sure Keefe won't play that line more than the tavares line. He might view Willy as his 2nd best line-driver at the moment.

Lots of interesting things going on.

1. Auston-Mitch has been super dominant possession and chance wise all year but simply aren't producing togehter at even strength...and haven't for a while now.

2. Tavares-Willy has been just ok. maybe even less than ok.

3. The lineup has been begging for a true 3-scoring line look imo, even though they're arguably one piece short of really making it work.

4. Kampf obviously sticks out in a bad way in that top-9 but two things: a) elite defense and faceoff guy might anchor those two wingers well, and b) he could be just a placeholder for a number of other potential moves - i) either Spezza or engvall could swap up to that line for more offense (kerf could switch to C if need be), ii) if a kid like Robertson or someonne else starts looking ready then he could slide onto a kerf-Willy line very easily, or iii) a trade deadline add could bump Kampf neatly down to 4C (imagine how hilariously good a Kerf-Hertl-Willy "3rd line" would be).

I would imagine a guy like Hertl costs a lot more and his production this year is unsustainable thanks to good ol' fashioned presto luck. I think he's good defensively tho which is big for me. They may not want to trade him anyway. Idk who else is even available.

would need to see Hertl's more recent numbers but pending that, sign me the fuck up.

I still remember when he was my annual fantasy hockey steal of the draft

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Mikheyev-Tavares-Marner
Kase-Pavelski-Engvall
Spezza-Kampf-Simmonds

Yeah, Pavelski is my deadline preference. Can play anywhere in your top 9, is still studly, has a history as a big dick goal scorer in the playoffs, been to the finals twice (he's won a round!)
