The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I had no idea LOF kept Engvall and Sandin receipts. For all I know he knows who approved of Francois Beauchimen
I got into countless wars with the zen brigade on Engvall but LOF caught my "stfu Presto, try to be an optimist for once" post and kicked me out of the fanclub. Can't say it wasn't deserved but, fuck.

I actually went back to see who else was supporting us and saw that and was like:

The missing piece is that before that, in another thread, I lost my cool and attacked people that I genuinely like in ways that I regret. So I had to reign it back and not get too worked up over Pierre fucking Engvall and tried to look at the potential bright side. Turned out my initial reaction was the correct one. I'm sorry to Pierre and all of his supporters out there for the betrayal.

Many joke about it but deciding to move on from Pierre Engvall in favor of so much other garbage was a sign that Kyle has completely lost it for me. It wasn't why they lost but it was a sign of complete abandonment from the puck possession/speed game that Kyle envisioned for his roster when he initially took on the job. Somewhere along the line the plan changed and the Engvall trade was one of many symbols of Kyle's evolution.

I don’t disagree with the overall thesis here. Just taking the opportunity to poke some fun at LOF’s Eggy love.

I believe my take at the time of the deal was that dumping skilled forward depth for a mid-round pick right before the playoffs only made sense if it ended up being one of a series of moves that ended with Dubas acquiring an upgrade on Engvall up front.

Obviously that did not happen and Eggy’s departure only resulted in Laff & ZAR both dressing for just about every playoff game, and an increased reliance on Yarncock & Kerfoot. Dumb as hell.

He was probably a great guy to work for but at the end of the day he played the wrong hand and it bit him in the ass.

I dont recall see so much drama around a GM being fired before. Surprised they don't have a state funeral set up outside Scotiabank
If he was fired for performance or for a fresh set of eyes type of thing it blows over quickly. But I cannot recall a coach or gm fired for a contract dispute / press conference.

Sandin is going to haunt us like Steen, Danphousse, Kadri.

think we’ll regret losing those two more than losing Dubas.

Just seems to be a thing that once a generation, the Leafs dump a young skilled Swedish defenseman for next to nothing and then sit back and watch him haunt our nightmares for the next 10-15 years.

In the 90’s & 00’s, it was Kenny Jonsson. In the 00’s & 10’s it was Anton Stralman. And now I have no doubt Raz will carry on that fine tradition.

Can’t really think of a time where a GM has given a presser and stumbled so badly on a layup “hey do u want to be here” question either tho.

If he approached Shanny with his concerns, they talked it out and decided it was best to part ways they could have spun it as a mutual agreement but Kyle brought it public and blind sided his boss by doing so . The icing on the cake being the only communication post presser being an email asking for more money

You're back in the club. Your remorse is palpable.
