The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

No extension was agreed to…they discussed framework, and Shanny said he felt it was close, but who knows what Dubas felt.

…he also said in his presser he’d just learned the extent of the toll it has taken on them. 🤷‍♂️

maybe it’s all a lie, and it was all negotiation tactics from the diabolical Dubas who had the Pitt job lined up, and was walking regardless if they didn’t match the Pens offer. Not impossible.

Every family has different ways of communicating but call me crazy if I am a bit skeptical that his wife didn't bring up any concerns or reservations she had as soon as the framework for a deal was discussed at the deadline,

Unless of course he kept her in the dark the entire time and just dropped it into her lap at the end of year

I do agree with this. Yes, things are tight with Shanny and they aren't letting on much... But the denials on here that they spoke to Chia, Treliving, etc. have gotten a bit out of hand. They are speaking to them. Maybe just maybe they are having interviews with some more under the radar picks who hold calculators too, but that's pure speculation. We know what we know... And based on the in-person interview that we know happened, Treliving is the obvious favorite right now to land the job.

Point me to one name other than Treliving where even one reporter has actually clearly stated that they are talking to them.

Not "believe" or "might".

Yeah exactly. That's why I said based on what we know, Treliving is the favorite. Because he is clearly the only guy we know that they've spoken to in person. Shanahan may have a different opinion but we know what we know.

Wanted dubas gone before the presser. Thankful that he torpedoed himself to finish the job.

Yeah, this is where I’m at. I wanted him gone based on his job performance, not the presser, and am fairly happy to see him gone.

And I am disappointed and somewhat concerned Shanny was apparently A-ok with Dubas’s job performance up until the presser. That part doesn’t look good on him.

But I’m totally ok with the change of course based on Dubas’s actions during and after his press conference.

During the presser Shanny opened with being happy with Kyle's off-season. I got excited because I thought he was about to rightfully torch his deadline.. But nah. He claims he liked it. Red flag!

Yeah and for now all we know is that Treliving got an in-person interview was was LIKELY the first to do so and the only one we know of at this point. It's no coincidence he is the favorite on all the betting lines because the public knows what the public knows. Hell, Shanny may have already ruled him out but that would be pure speculation.

I mean at the BARE MINIMUM we shouldnt be asked to care about anything at all that a reporter isnt even confident enough to say he KNOWS it happened. We'd be morons to take any of their air filling "mights" seriously.

That's obvious.

The language used in the "reporting" pretty clearly delineates things the reporter believes as fact (though still may be inaccurate on) and pure rumour.

I'm pretty comfy with my assessment of their performance to this point. Their salaries are based on clicks generated and ads sold. Can't do that if you've got nothing to say. So if you genuinely don't have anything new to add to the conversation but you still want to make your boat payment...what now? Well, we all know what happens at that point. We've seen it for decades.

Yeah, that was weird but Shanny did hesitate at that point and didn’t give a glowing review. He said something like, umm I think he did a good job at the deadline. I’m guessing he liked the ROR and McCabe additions but was iffy about the rest, but a couple of days didn’t undo things in his mind yet, but it was only because he got too comfortable with Dubie.

That was the big takeaway of his presser for me. He said when he heard Dubie express doubt over returning, that was basically the first time in earnest that he thought about the Leafs being run by someone else. And he liked it.
