The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

On one hand it sounds like he wasn’t on PP1 for most of the year or at least half of it.

On the other hand, why wasn’t he on PP1 for most of the year?

Rookie, wasn't great for at least the first half of the season, not a clear cut high end talent. Plenty of potentially reasonable reasons why he wasn't on PP1 most of the year I think! The encouraging part is that he made his way on there by the end and probably will be there all of next year. That alone props him to PPG as a baseline hopefully.

It's not a player I would have picked but I didn't watch any of these guys play nor do I have any data to justify my gut feeling outside of counting stats. What were his even strength points per minute? EV P1 points/60? How did this evolve throughout the year? Etc. Plenty of numbers that I would like to know about this guy that may or may not make him look better than his overall counting stats.

I think it could ultimately work out tbh, it definitely has the same vibes as the day we picked a Knies or Minten.

I’m not ultimately sure the qualities we prioritize bring the biggest payday so I can see that complaint. It might end up producing a bunch of guys who play in the league though.

That is exactly why real stats matter. If a player scores 20 goals and they are all either game tying or game winning goals, that is a lot better than a 30 goal scorer who only scores when you are up by 3 or more goals.

Of course it's a reach. The Leafs knew this too. As soon as their guy got selected by Nashville, they tried relentlessly to trade down. I'm sure they were offered packages but probably didn't want to take the risk that this dude wasn't going to be available in the picks they were offered. They liked the player a lot and decided to pick him. We shall see if this galaxy brain thinking works out. I tend to laugh at all these people making definitive statements about how good a 28th overall pick player will be. Fans opinions and even scouting lists tend to have poor predictability after pick ~15 or so.
It's a crap shoot after top 5 usually.

Who didnt they take I am supposed to be mad about.
Well the next bunch available are undersized skill players. Musty was the perfect fit in my estimation but gone two picks before.

If I had the choice I'd have gone with one of Hrabel(G), Dragicevic (RD) or Nelson(F) or Cristall (small F)

Oh and from the porn man

At that slot the dudes with "upside" are all deeply flawed players. So the Leafs took a lower upside guy who has ZERO WEAKNESSES that isn't great at anything but skating. 3-D chess galaxy brain move. STEAL!!!

They reached 13 and 6 sooner, we did it 67 sooner. That adds up to an ominous…19-67.

I'll wait for him to play 50 games with the Leafs. Might be waiting awhile.

The thing is, so what if he was gone later? Was this the only good player in the entire draft for them? Painful.

Hard to know without seeing what their list looked like. He might have been ranked much higher for them than anyone that would have been available there. Obviously they made the decision that they didn't want to risk losing him after they already lost out on their preferred target, moldy dick.

If I knew more about prospects, actually watched them, and evaluated the data that isn't available to the public I'd probably have a stronger opinion on whether they were right or not. But for now I can only assume what they were thinking based on the actions that took place.

This is why you have to put faith in your teams lead scout and not get upset when their picks dont align with Patrick Bacon

Or not trust them. That's fine too! Not sure how much trust they've necessarily earned over the years.
