The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

The Reaves impact is minimal. Contract is dumb and it's unfortunate that a roster spot will be wasted on him, but it has VERY minimal impact on their cap structure.

Klingberg could possibly have been a bad decision. And an expensive one, although at least it's only a 1 year commitment.

Everything else he did, including the people he let go --> A to A+.

And to address the Dubas glamorizing headline, Treliving is going to put Treliving in an awesome spot next summer with a whole lotta expiring contracts too thanks to his refusal to give real term to anyone but a party planner.

Dubas did leave him a glorious opportunity, but given the options out there, the players we know didn’t want to return etc….his off-season didn’t look to much different than what I’d have expected to see from Dubas, tbh.

prob no Reaves, but could very easily see him making all the others….or ones very very similar to the ones we did make.

I don't know who this is but he appears to be completely out of his mind over Dubas. So it's kind of like asking LOF for an objective opinion about Tavares or a particular player who replaced him as the 2C.

Reaves deal I do not like
Klingberg deal isn't one I would have done but could have some upside.

Bertuzzi and domi deals I both like and wonder if we hadn't given klingberg that deal could we have signed both for longer.

But really hard to judge until Nylander and Matthews are signed.

I guess we can discuss the idea even if we should know by now that Editor in Leaf is not a serious source.

But for the sake of discussion, we can look at Dubas' offseasons, starting with last year:

Murray $4.7 x2
Jarnkrok $2.1 x2
Samsonov $1.8 x1
NAK $1.0 x1
Giordano $0.8 x2

Or the year before:

Mrazek $3.8 x3
Ritchie $2.5 x2
Kase $1.3 x1
Bunting $1.0 x2
Simmonds $0.9 x2

Besides taking an upside swing on Klingberg I think Treliving has done a decent job.

Still want to see what comes of
- the Murray situation
- What kind of contract he hands out to Samsonov.
- Matthews extension?
- Nylander extension? Or trade?

Some really big moves left before training camp. If neither Matthews or Nylander are dealt with my camp than the off-season and Treliving is a failure.

Nothing will be done, probably, until after Sammy's arbitration hearing and Murray's trade or buyout.
There is a plan, they are not winging it.

Fuck those are grim
4/10 by my count and I'm being generous by including Gio being gifted to him or Jarnkrok at all. In fairness though, only 2 real disasters; the goalies. The rest were minimally debilitating with Ritchie probably hurting the most of the remainder.

Credit to him with Bunting and Samsonov tho.

Tre had a good offseason. Domi and Klingberg at 1 year are nice gambles. But Bertuzzi was arguably the best UFA and a type of player we really needed and he got him, but in that case it’s a bummer that he only was able to sign him for 1 year. Wish he’d been able to pull off 3-4 years there.

Oh I’m objective about it. It’s the others who will disagree about it for years and then praise Tavares after he’s gone and say they always loved him. That’s how things always have worked around here. Just look how everyone now suddenly loves Sandin.

Kyle did leave a clean, crisp balance sheet.

But Leafs probably would have been better off if he mucked it up slightly to get one more talented chess piece at the deadline.

TL;DR Fans don't celebrate clean balance sheets with parades
