If there was Semenko wouldn't have had a career.
Gretzky just thought the game so much faster than anyone else on the ice and didn't want to get hit, so he barely ever got hit.

There was definitely a no touching Gretz rule.
Don’t pretend.
Actually Gretzky played more games in that era. Lemieux played 220 games between the 1996-97 season and the lockout. Gretzky played 234.Mario and Wayne had pretty much identical career PPG but Mario missed the heyday of the early 80s scoring and had to play through the slog of the late 90s.
This.i know it's sexy and contrarian to diminish what Gretzky accomplished...but don't be that hipster doofus
It's a bit annoying too when people talk about Gretz like he was just a nerd who was good at hockey who wouldn't be able to keep up with the bigger, strong, "athletes" of today. But not Gretzky. Gretzky did about as much off season training (a mixture of on ice and playing other sports) as anyone from that era.
His time of 7.24 seconds for 60m in 1982 would have been faster than the men’s 60m national records of Mexico, New Zealand and Kenya.

The guy was an athlete. I mean, as much as this 60m dash video has become a bit of an internet joke:
