The Search for the New GM Thread

Boterill traded for Tage, Skinner and Montour.

Skinner for 2nd, 3rd, 6th + Clifford Pu
Tage, 1st, 2nd, Berglund, Sobotka for ROR
Montour for Guhle + 1st....Sabres later gave him up for a 3rd to Florida after Botterill was fired

His trade record is a bit mixed, but partially because he inherited a shitshow and was told to win now with it to placate an angry Jack Eichel.

Traded:

Marcus Foligno & Ennis for Pominville & Scandella: Foligno is useful, but just useful. Kind of a wash here imo.

Evander Kane for O'Regan, 1st, 3rd: This is part of the shit show he inherited, and considering Kane's reputation at the time, did well here imo.

4th for Conor Sheary & Matt Hunwick: There are better uses of the cap space than this but he was trying to acquire some wing depth with a bit of skill and was on a budget.... and in Buffalo, one of the last choices for any UFA in the league. I've always liked Sheary as a complimentary skill midget who is actually tough to play against. Think Kerfoot but not a bitch.

2nd, 3rd, 6th for Skinner: Another move that has to be viewed through the Buffalo lens. Skinner was a pending UFA and Buffalo grabbed his rights and signed him to a bigger deal than he should have gotten. But how the fuck else are you going to get someone with skill to go to Buffalo? Scored 40 goals in the first year of the hilarious deal, then hurt/shit and back to scoring 30+ a year a few years later. A move I would hate to see a Leaf GM make, but that makes a lot more sense under the constraints of a Buffalo Sabres GM.

1st, Guhle for Montour: The next GM pissed it away, but was obviously onto something with this trade. Only mistake Botterill made here was in not trading Montour to Toronto for Nylander ++, which I've been assured was always available.

2nd + 5th for Colin Miller: Analytics darling puck mover that scored .5ppg over the previous 2 seasons in Vegas that he took a chance on. Flopped in Buffalo, but a decent gamble.

Alex Nylander for Jokiharju: Previous regimes bad draft pick for functioning NHL blueline prospect. Small wins are still wins.

Evan Rodridgues + Sheary for Dom Kahun: Cap dump....but probably should have taken picks instead.

the more i think about it, the more i'd be shocked if any GM came in and tried to move any of the core.

how could any of them not think "let me have a crack with that core i'm pretty sure i can make it work".
The hardest part of the team construction is done. Any half ass GM should be able to do the rest.

Why does everyone want Tulsky?

I think I want someone with more of a pulse on hockey. Someone with actual hockey experience. Playing, coaching, managing. Someone good with the numbers of course but someone that sees where the game is going.
