TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Works both ways. But we were up 3-2. At that point, games 6/7 are all that matter unless it should be reasonable to expect to sweep or beat everyone in 5 games.
Right...but you're the one arguing the goaltending isn't a big issue. I'm saying both the goaltending and the big guns sucking shit in elimination games are issues. The GM has a lot more control over one of them.

Unless you can draft a goalie who can step in and be top 5 for us next year or know how to sign a $10m goalie like Vasy, you’re putting your efforts to waste.

I mean, that's the way we look at it as dudes on a message board who have bought into "goalies are voodoo". But I sure hope Glasses is dedicating some resources to a better plan than "sometimes she goes sometimes she doesn't".

Well, he tried. He thought he solidified things with Mrazek but he whiffed bad. So now he not only has to find a way to get rid of him, but also a way to replace him with someone better. And Jack isn't even under contract. Not a good situation, and I don't expect when the dust settles we'll have some sort of Vasy type as our starter and some reliable backup to go behind him. And if we do, we have to cut from other parts of the team.

Much easier to go with what was honestly very passable goaltending in the playoffs and add some scoring up front.

You get what you pay for. The fact that the Leafs had no other option to play in the playoffs despite getting sub .900 goaltending from a banged up Jack was a problem.

even a below average. 905-.910 goaltending and we’re still playing.

You can plan around being smarter than the other guys....but then you actually have to be smarter than the other guys. Throwing 3.8 million at a shit goalie was always a terrible idea. When the entire program is based around paying 4 guys 40 million and then big braining with the other 40 million, you actually have to do that big brain shit and not drop 6 million on Mraz and Mimsy.

Wonder if the models predicted bounce backs for Mrazek and Mimsy hence Charron getting the boots. Though I thought Metcalf was the guru of the group?

Not necessarily. EDIT - was distracted, meant to say he could've saved more goals in games where we had a lead and gotten a higher SV%, and then still ended up doing what he did in the last one.

Timing does matter. And for some reason, when it comes to the final games of the series, whether we get decent or good or great goaltending, the guns go silent.

According to my fantasy stat observations Murray must have out together a competent stretch last season between demotions and injuries.
