TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

You say that like it’s impossible to have decent goaltending in the NHL. The Leafs are 24th in save percentage over the last 3 years. It’s just not good enough. Why wouldn’t you want to try to improve it?

literally every other facet of the team is top 5-10.

Zeke gets to be the lightning rod - everyone else gets to make themselves look unhomerish by mocking him while at the same time knowing and agreeing with the truth deep down inside.

A literal hero.
don't worry zekie I'm with ya! fuck the haters.

buuuut I'm not ready to go full zeke and just blame the refs.

I say it like you think it’ll be so easy to find a better goalie in the $4m range, or that we should start subtracting from other areas to add a $7m or $8m goalie who will not give us any sort of guarantee to stop those two extra goals. A goalie who’s arguably better than Vasy right now just failed to stop those same two goals in their game 7. And who is the better goalie option anyway? I haven’t heard one good name mentioned that would feel like a dice roll any more than Jack does for you.

So we could either try to address our horrendous goaltending which was literally the same as TB’s instead or try to beat what we just faced by having more offensive weapons. Which is our problem every year because M&M don’t step up. You’re all obsessing on something that hasn’t caused us to lose and ignoring the problem that has.

I don’t want a bad goalie and I wish there wasn’t a cap preventing us from spending on anything we want. But this is our current team composition. And the reality of the goalie market is what it is. We shouldn’t fight it, but rather adopt the more feasible strategy.

Hey good post pal. I agree with a lot of it!

Cap space isn’t nearly as tight at you suggest. They have almost $8 mill, plus another $7 if they can move Kerfoot and Mrazek and all their key players are signed except goalie. And just imagine if you get your wish with Muzz. That’s $20 mill.

no one is saying spend every cent they have on goaltending. They should definitely try to improve the forwards too.

but also the offense is by far this teams strength and they outscored Tampa.

Outscored them by 1. And by -2 in the final two games. Continuing to believe that the offense is just fine will require the posting of that dog in the burning house pic. They're not just fine. They've gone cold in just about every single elimination game, especially the final one of each series.

And we are missing a bunch of forwards in that extra money you're freeing up. Kerf who was our leading pointgetter at ES or something crazy like that, Mikky and Engvall who I think were instrumental to our team this year, etc.

I just don't see any legit goalie names to upgrade to anyway. It's not like there's some Shersty clone who we can grab for $5m or $6m without some crazy term and I'm saying don't get him. There isn't one. Gibson is not that guy, none of them out there is that guy. You have to draft that guy because even signing someone like Bob is a disaster since you'll be required to give them 10 years.

Boils down to what is easier and more feasible and more likely to be achieved - upgrading goalie markedly or upgrading forwards markedly? The answer to that is obvious, so let's roll with the obvious.

I get around it just fine, you switch goalposts and keep on moving though, so what's the point?

You arbitrarily decide which games count according to how the players you like played in them
