TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

I don't disagree....I would have to be convinced by a slam dunk (like Price was) to pick a goalie that high

even then, Kopitar was a player many Hab fans wanted instead...turned out that was the real gangster move. Quick was drafted 67 slots after Price the same year

Most striking data is that goalies picked from 61-90 from 2000-2009 had almost the same success rate (30%) as those picked 15-30 (33%).

And yeah clear top 15 talents are rare and a guy like Askarov has to be considered in the first round. But to go top 15 when you have other clear first line+ talents still available? I'm not sure I'd even consider it.

The problem is the guys you would consider it for aren’t in the draft every year. Maybe once every handful of years.

But teams still need goalies so they reach.

In a world of 7 billion people, how are there like only 5 guys who can be reliably good goalies at any given time?

math checks out; how many franchise centres in the league

but really, define "reliable" ....one that rarely gives up a muffin...good luck with that.

There's only 30 starting spots.

So you have to compare goalie talent distribution only to the top 30 forwards and the top 30 dmen.

If each team only had 1 forward and 1 dman playing all game long, how many would be reliably consistently better than the rest?

If hockey switched to two skaters and 4 goalies we’d be set.

Like if there were only one forward per team guys like Couturier or Zibanejad would be horrific league worst crap that would get league minimum and be in dire need of replacement.

Pool of goalies is very small too tho so talent level will suffer if you're picking 10 per team or some shit. Very few kids play goalie. Hundreds of thousands more play forward/d so you're likely to get way more talent out of a pool of players that is 7-8x larger than goalies throughout minor hockey.

Couple tidbits from mirtle on shit he's "heard."

1. Jack is likely gone. Leafs are unlikely to pay him what he wants. Not impossible he returns, but unlikely.

2. Holl will be the guy moved. They're keeping Muzzin. And may potentially bring back Boosh or someone similar as a 7. @LeafOfFaith

Hopefully Babushkie impressed the world so much in his run with us that he priced himself out of our plans. Damn that guy was good.

We’ll see about Muzzin. Dubie has been doing more or less 95% of what I’d do, so I have to believe adding Gio opened the door to Muzz leaving.
