TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Samsonov hasn't been very good in North America, but its an interesting target. He just turned 25 and was awesome in Russia:

Age 18:
1. Samsonov - 19 gp, .925
2. Vasilevskiey - 8 gp, .924
3. Sorokin - 27 gp, .911
4. Shesterkin - 8 gp, .903

Age 19:
1. Samsonov - 27 gp, .936
2. Vasilevskiey - 28 gp, .923
3. Shesterkin - 6 gp, .917
4. Sorokin - 28 gp, .910

Age 20
1. Sorkin - 28 gp, .953
2. Samsonov - 26 gp, .926
3. Shesterkin - 7 gp, .912
Vasilievskiey - NHL - 16 gp, .918

Why does Peter Deboer get 4 million per from the Stars? Does anyone hire new coaches anymore? Oilers did, only after McDavid refused Babs.

I guess I'll go down with the ship like I did when I thought Hyman would stay, but I really don't buy it.

This is their agents just making noise in the press. Anyone watching the goalies in the playoffs this year should really reconsider any thought of giving Jack some 5x5 deal. And maybe someone does give Mikky $4M for a few years, I could see that, but still feel like he's the type to stick around and not chase the dollars.

Time will tell.

This was his 26 yr old season, so just entering what are widely considered to be prime goaltending years.

Was a Liiga stud, and AHL stud in his first 60 games...and then sucked badly in 18/19 which was allegedly due to injury. 909 the following season isn't stellar, but it's not as bad as it appears either. Was tied for 18th in the league which isn't great, but also not terrible.

Its not uncommon to see these type of uneven development records in guys who go on to be good NHL goalies. Just looking at the ~15 goalies who put up .915 or better this season, about half of them: Smith, Ullmark, Stolarz, Forsberg, Jarry, Husso, Kuemper, Markstrom all had weirdo development curves.

Husso would be a way better spend of 3-4 million than Mrazek ever had a chance to be. Husso might actually be a 1A. Not an elite one, but a good one.
I've had Husso on the roster in every one of my keeper leagues, so I've kept an eye on him for a while. Always thought he had starter potential until last year when I kind of gave up on the idea (didn't drop him though!)

Watched him play a little bit this year, and he looked really good to me. Numbers agree, especially in the first half when he was lights out and took the job away from Binnington. I even watched most of game 1 in the playoffs when he shutout Minnesota, now they played a great overall team game but he made several tough saves and looked like he was ready for prime time. After that, however, he turned to suck for the rest of the playoffs.

So what is my verdict after all this time? I have no fucking idea! Goalies, man.

However, if I have to express an opinion, if Jack isn't coming back i will stake a claim on bringing in Husso as part of a 1A, 1B. Starter potential is definitely in there.

My preference is one safe-ish guy as our 1A & then a swing for the fences. Something like Varly with retention and a "Husso" type is fine with me. Husso is the right age to break out and is hyper athletic, so if our nerds thought he was worth the risk I would nod and smile. But I'm still pretty firmly in the 2 goalie camp.

Without question, Dubas must get 2 guys who can play because chaos theory is a thing, especially when it comes to #Goalies and #LeafPlayoffs.

And those guys are unlikely to get $5M, but if they do they should take it. They haven't made life-changing money yet, things change a bit once you've been in the league for 10+ years and have millions in the bank. Until such time I say, go on take the money and run...
