TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Curious what fans that don't really care think about Wright v Slafkovsky. Who would leaf fans want?

As a Leafs fan, I'd go Wright, but barely. Wright is a solid centre, but I'm concerned his flatline in his D-year combined with meh overall performances this year means he'll be a 2C tops, 60-65pt guy. He's not a true 2-way Bergeron type, but more of a responsible C. I'm thinking more of a Kopitar-lite type that could replace JT in a year or two.

Slafkovsky had a great second half, especially after his coming out party at the Olympics. His league play post Olympics, playoffs, and World's were night and day from his earlier league play, hence why his numbers were so down. I'm wondering if the Olympics is where he "clicked" and realized his potential. His skating, size, ability to defend the puck, shot, etc, all point to a 30-40 goal guy that could average 70+ pts a year. He's not physical in that he seeks out hits, but he engages with his body to win puck battles. I'd take him if I were NJ with two young, established centres. Jagr isn't a great comparable, as Jagr was way flashier, but maybe Marian Hossa without the same passing game (yet). I see the Puljujarvi comparison, but the consensus seems to feel that Slaf isn't going in that direction considering the play against higher competition (Worlds, Olympics) that Puljujarvi wasn't tested against at this age.

It'll probably be Wright, given Montreal's need, but yeah...this year has the chance to be different. Nemec or Jiricek going #1 wouldn't be hugely surprising, and neither would Cooley if they want the centre, but with a higher offensive ceiling. If I had to bet, I'm guessing it'll be boring and go Wright-Slaf-Cooley-Nemec-Jiricek. But if Montreal takes Slaf, NJ may trade 2OA and really spice things up.

Idk if a Spezza deal is on his mind but a lil birdie just told me that Sam Gagner is gonna push to sign with Toronto. Whether dubas is interested or not, idk

The more I think if things I think I'd like to go with a combo of stolarz and fluery or even a reimer.

I really hope we don’t go in to next season with worse goaltending then last year.

So far it’s not looking good
