TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

You don't need to. But say Sandin and Forsberg were on a team together.

Would you trade Muzzin and Kerf for Sandin and Forsberg?

That's what it comes down to.
that's not what started this though - the post I responded to was where you suggested that we could both get rid of Muzz and improve the D. I don't see how that's possible.

I'd trade Muzz for a package of a 1st and a prospect, trade off Kerf and some other fluff, chase a Forsberg, and give Sandin the opportunity on D which I believe upgrades it, yes.
After the McDonagh trade, while his contract was a hell of a lot worse, I'm not convinced a Muzzin trade isn't a pure cap dump and they get nada in return. That's largely why I'm less open to the idea of trading him than I once was.

McD’s contract is way worse.

Bottom line is Muzz-Brodie is a beast of a matchup shutdown pairing and we finally have a good enough defense to keep them together.

Lilly and Ras are both full time top 6 dmen this year no matter what, and will have plenty of opportunity to earn top 4 minutes.

Heck if Sandin is indeed the one that flips to the right-side then that likely means he's playing with Rielly.

We have one bad contract in Mrazek. Let's figure out a way of dealing with that instead of getting rid of good players for no reason.

Not sure the comparison is Ras vs Muzz. Gio has had a similar impact to Muzz the last 2 years, only with a worse offensive and better defensive impact.

If you can replace what Muzz brings, or even a big chunk of it, for 1/5th of the cost there is potential upside to reallocating that’s space. Plus adding whatever you get for him.

Muzz is also great though so I also get the argument to keep him.

I mean you're still skirting around the actual issue, but that's fine. I consider your avoidance a concession.
The actual issue is one guy is a blue chip young guy who can do everything and is cheap. The other guy has been mostly terrible and is expensive, old, and injured a lot. There’s nothing to debate. You don’t live in a world where healthy and effective Muzz is promised to you.

I’m on the fence where Muzzin is concerned.

I absolutely agree we’d be a worse team on paper if we got rid of him, that a healthy Muzz is our best defender and that Sandin is not now and may not ever be as good a defenseman as him.

At the same time, I don’t trust him to be reasonably healthy by the time the playoffs roll around, and I don’t trust him to stay in the lineup for even the majority of a lengthy playoff run (assuming this team ever goes on one).

So if they dumped his contract now, I honestly wouldn’t be particular bothered by that move. And if they keep him, hopefully that roll of the dice on his health pays off.

but you live in one where Sandin can apparently, without having ever proven it before, and despite his obvious physical and skating limitations, be this mythical defenseman.

this is a reasonable stance to take IMO. I am more bullish on Muzz than you I think which causes me to lean more towards 'keep him'.

Bafflegab and spooge pod in the same week. Volc has brought himself up from bottom third quality booster to like top 20 in a hurry.

speak about what? you either think the guy is your starter and you're going to pay him starter money or you aren't. Fortunately this shit is time gated and we don't need to put up with bafflegab for much longer.

Bafflegab?

He's saying it's time for Jack to make a decision.
