TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

I'm here left wondering what LOFs opinions are on Miller and Muzzin. Dude is shy as fuck about his thoughts sometimes. Unfortunate really.

If Garland was a LW he might have been a more interesting target for me. Although I guess you can shift Nylander to the left.

Kerfoot, some non Knies/Robertson/Niemela prospect and a 1st for Miller

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Miller-Tavares-Nylander
Kubel-Kampf-Engvall
Roberson-Jarnkrok-Milano/Steel

There's no sense blocking Robertson in October when adding middle 6 scoring depth for a 1st plus junk is so easy in February.

Kane, Toews, O'Reilly, Tarasenko, Miller, JVR, Pastrnak, Monahan, Okposo, Horvat, Bertuzzi, Paveslki, Barbashev, Killorn and a ton more wingers in the 15-20 goal range last season are expiring, and a big bunch of those are on non playoff or bubble teams at best.

You don't need your roster sorted by October, you need it sorted by April. Play Robertson, play Steeves (or whoever wins that spot) and if you need to make adds later, make adds later. That's the core benefit of having the Core 4 and a sorted blueline. You can take some chances on young guys filling the support roles.

Oh yeah, also forgot the possibility of adding Knies for the playoffs next season if Steeves/Anderson/Holmberg/whoever doesn't work on that 4th line.

Adding one impact-ish guy up front would be great. At that point I care way less about filling the gaps with AHLers/prospects because at that point you're putting them in can't fail positions.

But then again, you can probably add that piece at the deadline. And potentially cheaper too.

Miller coming off a 99pt 28yr old season and the canucks still want to sell him. Something wrong with that dude.

Dunno if that's the right way to look at it. They rightfully don't want to pay his asking price on extension coming off of a career year and also don't want to lose him for nothing next summer. If you can get a solid package for him now, why not? They know they're not winning fuck all this season.

If we're going to throw out wild proposals on how these last offseason pieces can be sorted, I think Dubas is going to be looking at teams who can take on a bit more salary so that we can then sign Engvall + Sandin.

With that in mind, wild thought:

Muzzin, Kerfoot + (2) 1sts (+ more?) -for- Meier

If I'm Dubie, it's a swing for the fences for a guy who's about to be an RFA and probably is in line for a decent raise, so maybe SJ won't want to pay him that. Opens up about $3 mill in cap space. Can be traded down the road if need be since he's an RFA, but kind of like a Kadri acquisition for Colorado to put an offence over the top.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Meier
Engvall - Kampf - Nylander

Definitely won't happen, but thinking (dreaming?) outside the box.

Losing yet another 1st is less than ideal.

Especially when we have other assets we could trade instead. I'm not allowed to mention what.

Last Year Age/Paces:

W N.Robertson (20, AHL): 47gls/82pts ---- NHL 10gms, 1gls, 1pts
C A.Steeves (22, AHL): 33gls/65pts
W J.Anderson (23, AHL): 38gls/62pts ------ NHL 5gms, 0gls, 0pts
C P.Holmberg (22, SHL): 21gls/73pts ------ AHL 6gms, 2gls, 4pts
C N.Abruzzese (22, NCAA): 26gls/97pts --- NHL 9gms, 1gls, 1pts

Time to give them a shot.

Because paying him 9-10 million until he's 37-38 yrs old seems like a bad idea?

Dude turns 30 in March.
Not sure what to think of these situations in light of recent events.

Gaudreau must not have been able to get the money he wanted from what must've been more preferred suitors like NYI and NJ, so he had to go be a big fish in a small pond. And the name cache that Gaudreau has makes Miller's pale in comparison.

Kadri is still sitting out there, and he's probably a comparable to Miller in terms of stature.

I'm sure Miller and his agent are noticing this right now. Does that make them more inclined to just resign with Van now for less? Or does it make him want to just go to market if he's going to be taking less anyway? From Vancouver's standpoint, if he's not extending now, he's a complete wasted asset that they need to move.

And it's also again kinda sideways.

We need to either keep Kerf or replace him with someone who can produce like him.

In addition to that, we need a core fifth.
