TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Only difference is Samsonov has never been a good NHLer whereas Murray has Stanley cup rings plugging his ears with 4 elite seasons off the hop. But he was injured and shit in 19-20 and 20-21 and last year he was elite again outside of 2 games.

I still prefer that track record if I'm gonna bet on someone to be competent next year.

yes, but if I get convinced that Murray will be good than he won’t.

Pretty clear Dubie is working on something. And not just a bargain binner. If it materializes, who knows, but if it does, it's probably soon.

Our scoring depth is by far our weakness despite the top end firepower. And it's been hit by losing Mikky and Kase. Dubie isn't oblivious to this fact, and that he hasn't replaced the scoring yet, means he's still trying to. But I don't think the answer is a $1M lotto guy. Need to free up that $6M and go shopping.

Big Dick Nick is a better goal scorer going into the lineup than anything we've lost. With that said, yes. Another winger who can score in place of Kerfoot pls

I hope we're not betting on this cat being more than a 4th liner though

Those are pretty pedestrian AHL numbers for anyone with hopes of having untapped offensive upside.

Don't think it's necessarily the trade that you're hoping for... but agree there's another move coming because I don't think we can fit in Engvall or Sandin's deals without one.

I think we thought Nick would be that last year, so can't assume he'll take a spot, and if he does, I'd prefer it to be on the third line anyway.

Dubie is stinging more than anyone having to watch the team unable to score in the elimination games and now losing some offense in the offseason. There's no way he's not trying to add someone of some significance. If his job is on the line, going in with that forward group you've got there, even with adding Kerfoot, isn't going to give him the confidence he needs going into the season. Have to prepare as though Robertson isn't ready, that one or more of the big guys gets hurt, etc. There's not enough depth there, but it is solved by trading Muzz, adding a name like Miller, and actually keeping Kerf unless a similar replacement is found (they're not dumping him for nothing).

And it's odd he hasn't just signed them to their deals and then moved out whoever he needs to move out. He's clearly trying to preserve max flexibility to do something.

I think we thought Nick would be that last year

Nick was still 19 in training camp last year and was good but just good as a 19 yr old in the AHL. He was dominant as a 20 yr old (16 goals in 28 games). It would have been nice if he took that big of a step last year, but it's not weird or discouraging that he didn't. It would be a pretty natural progression to go from 20 yr old AHL stud to 21 yr old middle 6 contributor.

I think now that Ben/Mete are signed Holll is gone, which saves $1.25 mill. Depending on how many players they keep that should give them enough cap space ($4.5-5 mill) to sign Engvall, Sandin and another forward for about $1.5 mil.

not sure they do more than that. But would love a Kerfoot for Miller/Pool Party cap swap.

Will Van move Miller? Unless they can extend him this summer, it makes no sense for them to keep him. They are definitely way thin on D, and I think value-wise in terms of what we can offer, and need-wise in terms of what they could use, and even salary-wise, Muzz is a great match. That would be a perfect one for one hockey trade, where Van takes on the extra health risk, but also has an extra year of term to add to the value column.

Frankly, he looked good to me last year and I was disappointed that we didn't see him again later. I'm penciling him in this year too, but my point is, that Dubie can't just bank on him, especially since he has had a knack of getting hurt. And he can't just count on the big guys being healthy all year. He has to have that core fifth. Has to. It's not optional imo.
