TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

I am just going to assume this is true and the best goalie stat available.

What does this even mean? Because he posted a .920 with the Sens until the last couple of games. So with the Leafs, if we ignore those last two games, he’d actually be much, much higher then.

Without access to their tracking data its hard to see where the numbers come from but this is a good explanation showing the variance from public models to private (NST, EW vs CSA)

And just for comparison, here is the type of work that goes into publicly available xG

Its significantly better than nothing and overall pretty okay. But there's some obvious blind spots (mentioned in reference to the private data) that limit its accuracy

I actually think that new Setting stat is really interesting.

It captures something no other public model currently does, that also is not captured by xG based on shot location.

Wonder how that impacts goalie stats.

There really aren't that many variables that effect shot quality from a specific location, that trick i would imagine is accurate tracking.

But yeah, the setting metric looks promising. Anything that starts to explain how good guys like McDavid and Kane are (I would imagine Mitchy is a setting beast as well) at generating goals off of linemates sticks, is probably a durable and meaningful statistic

it shows things that are obvious, but not shown in xG models, in the limited info he has shared.

Like Poolparty and Nichushkin, while possession beasts, don't really impact real offense, while Hedman, or Yandle, who are less of a possession beast, do impact real offense a very elite way.

Just wait until you see Samsonov's private data...
