TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

The amount of mewling over Columbus being closer to home for Johnny but not closer enough for people from Calgary is heart warming. Anyone who has spent any time in a plane knows how much more enjoyable a 75 minute flight is than a 3:30 flight. This is a province chalk full of people who will drive 12+ hours to avoid getting on a plane ffs (the amount of people who drive 12-24+ hours to and from the patch for their 2-3 week hitch is staggering)

and culturally...if some fucking country boy from Saskatchewan left an eastern seaboard team to play anywhere in Western Canada, no one in Calgary would bat an eye. But an American just wants to be closer to home and it's an issue.

Hypocrites and crybaby douchebags, the lot of them.

It actually makes sense to me that he wanted to be closer to family (6 hour drive or 1 hr flight). I'm the same way, close but not too close.

I think most of the “mewling” has to do with the perception of Columbus as a city & NHL market, rather than Johnny not ending up closer to home than he did.

For basically their entire history, Columbus has been the franchise star players demand to be traded out of or run away from as soon as they can.

Rick Nash, Jeff Carter, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Artemi Panarin…and then you’ve got Patrik Laine who appears to want to join that list as well.

The fact that their franchise player took less money to leave their town and go there is just a big, deflating ego blow to Calgarians, I’d imagine.

Here's the funny part, Columbus is actually a pretty great city to raise kids. It's young and vibrant. College town. Nothing too crazy.

But if you want excitement, which many 20 something millionaires want, then that's not really the place.

There are far worse places to live than Columbus. It's just a typical Canadian style town in America though so people wonder why bother.

If I were a Calgary fan, I probably wouldn't even care where the hell he went, just that he went at all. He crippled the franchise and forced them into a rebuild just as they became semi-contenders. His leaving caused their recent stud pick to want to leave too. Just horrific turn of events.

There have been a string of tweets - effectively narrowing the list of possible players.

If Flames demand Nylander I'm not sure I say no. He's real real good.

But yeah, Tavares+ would be beautiful. Poor JT would have to agree to move his family to Calgary tho. No chance.

I love Tkachuk, but my offer is Muzz, Kerf, Knies, 1st.

Nylander and Marner?? No. Goal is to ADD, improve.

Certainly not both, but i'm guessing a package including one of the two. I don't see the flames taking on contract dumps and Dubas will be competing with other teams.
