TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Even Tavares though. On a 7 year $77 million deal, if he provided $74 mill in value at the end of the day that is a fuck load of value. Its just slightly inefficient. But that was the cost of acquiring an elite center.

And that is ignoring the first 4 years which may have produced positive value. Tavares provided $11.6 mill in value this year.

Also probably doesn't factor in game 6.

Tavares' stats are pretty damn good given his usage. I'm juts mad we didn't take a run his first 4 years here.
Leafs are set-up great with MM,AM,WN's contracts coming-up

Jarnkrok signing may end up looking pretty stupid though.

Yeah, seemed like Dubas jumped the gun on that. Probably could have pulled an equivalent player out of the bargain bin for next-to-nothing.

And I still question the need for even signing him in the first place. Seems like another Kerfoot-type player, which I guess must be Dubas’s fetish.

Nope,

Thank God for Rem Pitlick!!!!!

I get it if he is 27 and undervalued. But 4 years at 32 coming off of a bad year in a buyers market is weird.

He could always rebound and provide a ton of value for a year or two though. It would just suck if he isn't even good this year.

That has to be just Dubey wanting him because he makes 750 K next year.

I dunno. I don’t think actual dollar expenditures mean much to Dubas or the Leafs.

I think he just genuinely loves what Kerfoot brings on the ice, for some reason.

Tavares GSVA:
Year 1: 4.0
Year 2: 2.0
Year 3: 1.8
Year 4: 3.1

From Dom:

Base on that the yearly value is approximately:
Year 1: 14.2
Year 2: 7.7
Year 3: 7.7
Year 4: 11.6

Total: $41.2
Paid: $44
Value: -$2.8

An overpayment of about $700k a year for the first 4 years is fine. If at the end of the day his contract was -$5.8 in value we take that all day. Small price to pay to add him for no assets. He has to live up to that last 3 years projection though.

According to Capfriendly Jarnkrok's contract is split up evenly for 4 years. Its paid out 70%-ish in signing bonuses though.

So on July 2 each year his contract is worth about $1 mill less than the remaining cap hit. E.g. after year 1 its 3 years $5 mill instead of 3 years $6 mill, after year 2 2 years $3 mill etc.

Its not like its no money to move. A lot of term and decent cash, including big bonuses, until after year 3.

Tavares was the mistake.

Kadri retention was what they should have done IMO.
hey there was a decent troupe of us at the time opposed to the JT signing. feeling pretty vindicated, despite whatever LOF will say in reply.

also surprised that Dom's model is so low on Muzz.

I thought I remembered hearing on Free Agency day that the contract dipped signficantly in years 3 and 4 so I was definitely mistaken on that. Still 2.1 million isn't a huge cap hit in the first place. If that's your worst deal, you're probably rightfully in the #3 spot.

that is even uglier than I could have ever imagined. wow Bergy, wow.

if Bergy was here now to defend himself, he'd say "you guys always win in the battle of the spreadsheets....but the game is played on the HIIIIICE!"
