TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

The memory of Muzz will probably make you more misty-eyed than a Groot sex scene soon.

I don't think he's got what it takes to deliver a full season of top quality play, and a legit risk of not being available or effective in the playoffs. But if we're intent to hold that bag, then I guess we'll just have to hope he delivers.

All I know is, we could (i) trade him for some great stuff right now, (ii) use some of that money to lock in Sandin on a nice fair deal for 3-4 years, and (iii) use the rest of the money to add some scoring depth which has been nonexistent when we need it in the playoffs.

Could do as much with a Kerfoot + Holl trade as they could with a Muzzin trade.'

I'm a Muzzin skeptic as well, but there's 5.5 million dollars sitting in entirely replaceable players on our roster at the moment. Muzzin in theory, is much more difficult to replace if he manages to stay healthy.

He was healthy for much of the regular season, but wasn't very good for much of it. I think the Muzz love is a little more clinging to the past than accepting the present as the reality we need to consider.

But yeah, Muzz, Kerf and Holl represent trade bait that could bring in some very good young assets, and clear over $10M that could potentially be redeployed on other things. I don't think we're using any of their money in the best way we could if we keep them.

Yeah, I could be described as a Muzzin skeptic as well. Both due to age-related decline and his mounting injury problems.

But cutting his cap hit just isn’t a priority for me when you’ve got Kerf + Holl eating up the same amount of cap space. I’d rather dump those guys and then gamble on Muzzin staying mostly healthy and still managing to be a good top-4 guy for another year.

been playing around with Dom's last public GSVA numbers. I'm sure they'll change in a big way projecting out to next year, especially the goalies, but my very rough rosters lead to a ranking of top teams that looks something like:

1. BOS
2. TOR
(big gap)
3. COL
4. FLA
(small gap)
5. PIT
6. TB
7. CAR
8. CGY

There might be some other teams up in this group cuz i haven't done all of them but some teams i've done like VGK and EDM are well behind the teams on this list.

Well they did get 107pts last year and they're basically the same team but with Krejci and Lindholm added, which is pretty good.

A lot depends of course on what old guys like Bergeron and Krejci are rated at - both will likely take a big hit from their most recent numbers, especially Krejci who i had to pull a number from 2 years ago for. And the model loves Grzelcyk and likes Reilly a lot too.

I don't know that your attempt here adequately factors in Boston's injury situation. They're gonna be missing some studs to start the season.

Isn't Marchand out the first few months? I thought they were missing some other big name too?

In any event, they're yet another year older, and every time that happens, it's one step closer to falling off that cliff, so unless these guys just don't get worse with age the way we expect our core guys to get better at this stage, the ranking seems off.
