Renting Kane becomes significantly less attractive if you have to make a major subtraction from our top-6 forwards or top-4 defense to add him.
The whole point would be for him to be a pure addition to the current core group.
So, definitely no Nylander.

Don’t think there’s any prospect that’s a deal breaker for Kane (but I wouldn’t want to gut the system either). Yeah, I’d move Robertson.

If it’s not Robertson, it’s one of both Finns, and Knies probably is a must have for them, so we’d be losing guys I want to keep in any event, but that’s the way it is.
And yeah, no deal if they want an important roster player. But Nylander wouldn’t fit into their tear down plans so I don’t think they even want any established guys. They just traded debrincat for futures ffs.

ehhh cost for a deadline UFA rental at the top of the market is usually prospect + pick + something.
a full season of Kane ought to cost a bit more. but only a bit.
plus, with his NMC he can basically set his own market too.
I think the eventual return may underwhelm most. but we shall see.

Get rid of Muzz. Let them go trade him for futures. Keep the supporting guys and definitely Sandin.

yeah I don't see a rebuilding team as the appropriate landing spot for Muzz, if we do move him.
someone like Kerf though, who is a UFA, gives them a deadline rental to pawn. and once the Leaf stink is off him, I'm sure his value will recover.

They can flip him. Whether immediately or wait till the deadline. He’s a much better chip to flip than Kerf who’s expiring.

Kane will not get traded for much more than something like Knies and a 1st. Maybe a second conditional 1st if they win a cup.

Yeah, I think a reasonable price is one higher end young asset (one of sandin, knies, Robertson) a 1st and then salary balast. Probably an additional pick or two for the retention.
That has to be tempered by Kane's NMC though. He's not waiving to go to a bubble team. The market for his services is probably only 8 teams deep or so.

Kane price will be higher than most people here think. (And Leafs should definitely pay it… I would trade Knies + Robertson + 1st in a heartbeat…. are you really gonna let 3 B+ hopefuls stand in your way of the Cup?)
He’s by far the best rental to hit the market in recent memory. Game changer.

I mean yeah, trade prospects and whatnot but hockey isn't like the NBA. Sacrificing the future for 1 year of a super elite player is not always worth it; it increases your odds of winning the cup in year 1 but decreases them in years 2, 3, 4, 5, 6+ to the point where it may not be a net benefit in the end.
But Knies and Robertson may not be gamechangers anyway. Especially Knies. I probably do the trade.
