I'm not a fan. Prefer clean jerseys, especially on the richest team in the league that actually exists in a cap structure where they are forced to limit their investment in the on-ice product. Like what the fuck are the farmers paying them to justify that? It's kinda obnoxious.

One the one hand, sure, that’s true.

On the other hand, Dubas’s whole tenure as GM revolves around him making a big bet on John Tavares, while also insisting on keeping the core group of Matthews, Marner & Nylander in place.

So if those guys can’t get it done…that does fall back on Dubas in the end.

I agree with this. It'll just be the usual recycled crap available. That said, it would send a bad message to have him extended. They are more worried about the look of it than anything else.
Tricky thing is, his contract ends when matthews needs to be extended. If matthews loves him but they still haven't had success., Leafs are stuck extending him.
