I mean, yeah...kind of. They're a good club, but I don't think they're better off now than they were at the end of the season
But I don't think Burns is an upgrade over DeAngelo (however much of a jackass DeAngelo is) and MaxPac/Kase...even when they're healthy, probably isn't as good as Trochek/Niederreiter, and of course, one of them is a pretty solid #2C.
Basically they went from this (a common lineup near the end of the year
Teuvo-Aho-Jarvis
Svech-Trochek-Necas
Nino-Staal-Fast
Domi-JK-Martinook
Slavin-DA
Skjei-Pesce
Smith-Cole
To
Teuvo-Aho-Jarvis
Svech-Staal-Necas
MaxPac-JK-Kase
Martinook-Pederson-Fast
Slavin-Burns
Skjei-Pesce
Gardiner-Bear
There's some different stuff they can do with that middle 6, but none of it is as good as when Trochek was there. If Staal is your matchup line, you can always just sub MaxPac in for Nino straight up, push Kase to your 4th line and run Svech-JK-Necas as a sheltered 2nd line...but again, pretty big step down from Trochek.
On the blueline, Burns did some heavy lifting for San Jose last season, but he got dummied in the heavy usage. Skjei/Pesce handle most of the heavies in Carolina, so lighter usage and a much better partner should help...but 37 is 37.
