Flyers arguably got the "best player" in the Lindros trade back in '92. Did they win that trade? Obviously not.
The team that gets the best player probably loses those trades at least half the time because they end up giving up too much for the "best player."

I really don't think he can afford an inactive trade deadline. He did not have a productive deadline last year, he did not have a productive off-season. He has been unable to add a significant piece since his arrival. does anyone think he will be active between now and next Wednesday?

For all the reasons you listed I think he has to make a move of some significance.
He needs to do something but if he doesn't he will say, well we are at least 3 years from competing so I didn't want to sell the farm.

I agree. But this wont be the 1st deadline where going in, I thought the GM "had" to do something.

And above all else, that "something" is to tell Geoff Molson that he needs to make decisions by March 5 WITHOUT having the constraint of needing to make the playoffs this season so that the team's debt can be serviced. If everything is based on that, then this team has no hope of ever winning a Cup gain.

I would absolutely do it. $5.5m is nothing in todays cap world. He is 6'8 219lbs and he can skate! If Gorges is worth $3.9m, you should be fine paying Myers.
