Your math might be a bit off there, if you're taking Nash at $7.8m and a scrub at $1m then you get Dubinsky at $4.2m so that leaves you $4.6m for your 2nd player.

Don't twist it. We're talking about the better player. Just a pure talent evaluation, not a decision as to how they fit into a 23 man roster.

Fine you can get DD, or Dany B, or heck even Gio along with Dubes. I'll take AG. :sarcasm

I raised the name a while back in a trade scenario. I really think we should go after him if he's on the block. I think he's dying in wing town. When we ask why our GM doesn't fleece anyone it's cuz we are reluctant to make a move that has upside. Myers has that.

Sabres have quite a few young dmen, if they're looking for fwd maybe Collberg plus a 1st or Collberg plus someone like Fucale?

Considering where we will be drafting this year I would give up our first for a young D like Myers. Sure he's been slumping but I don't think there will be a better player at the 20-25 mark this season than he is. Also, he plays on a Lindy Ruffless Buffalo squad now. Firing Ruff was a very stupid move on their part.

I agree the potential is big, but with the length of term and the money on the contract its a big risk though too.

This could blow up in your face Gomez style if he's a third pairing D at nearly 6 million a year for a long time.

People were down on Phaneuf and said he was overpaid I agree.

Not to the same degree as they are down on Myers though.

With the increase in cap and subsequent increase in salaries... that number will become common place for even a worst case scenario on Myers.

Doubtful that a third pairing D... what he is right now... is gonna get 6 million a season.

If you are saying he becomes a 3/4, Okay, I can buy that. But the guys at the bottom of the roster aren't gonna see big increases in salary. And the last 4 seasons, he has not been a top 4 defenceman, so I don't see how saying top 4 is a worst case scenario.

The guys at the top of the roster benefit most when the cap goes up. The guys on the fourth line, bottom pair, backup goalie, teams are gonna still try to get away with as cheap an option as possible and pay the big bucks to the guys who get the most ice time. The bigger the cap, the bigger disparity between the pay of a first liner and fourth liner.

He is making 5.5m.

Gorges makes 3.9 to be a bottom pairing guy. I think just about anybody on here would trade Gorges for Myers straight up (Buffalo wouldn't) That right there pretty much tells you that Myers is being paid what his market value is.
 
Gorges doesn't play bottom pairing minutes. He plays 3rd most minutes of any defenceman on the team, and is often paired with Subban.

Right now he's our number 3.

And that trade factors in potential. It doesn't factor in worst case scenario.

Worst Case Scenario is that Myers is exactly what he is right now, and does not improve.

Is Myers playing at the level he's currently at worth 1.6 million more than Gorges? No.

Is Myers right now a better defenceman than Gorges... Money not even considered? I'd also say no.

Myers averages more ice time than Gorges. He also, despite slumping, is much better offensively (He has 1 less goal than PK right now).

I also never said there is NO risk. But his contract is far from an albatross. This is the type of deal I make all day long.
 
Ya. Gomez was making 7.2m with the cap lower.

Myers is a risk. But we have nothing after Markov.
 
Much better to wait and see if Tinordi can be close to a Myers equal at a fraction, fraction of the price.
