Trade Deadline Thread

It's all about which part of the brain is behind the piece of skull you bash off the wall repeatedly until you stop feeling the pain.

Is there any way for Dubas and Keefe to redeem themselves here for you guys or have they lost you even if they had a long playoff run?

Winning a cup or going on a long playoff run wouldn't change anything for me because they can and should do that regardless of what they did at the deadline. This team is still good enough even with an anchor on D playing ahead of a Liljegren or Holl. Or having Lafferty or whatever trash replace Engvall with no additional depth added up front. It still doesn't mean that they could have and should have been even better.

In saying that, if they win a cup my emotions will take over and I'll probably suck every dick in management gleefully. But I'd be wrong to do so. Objectively speaking, Dubas made several errors and Keefe was the main influence of them.

I don't see cup wins as proof of being right in a particular deadline for an elite team that's already a cup contender. I think them and many other teams have been right in many other seasons and suffered first round exits. I don't think I'll ever say that not acquiring another forward was the right thing to do and the REASON they won a cup. They just decided to make it harder on themselves. Doesn't mean they still can't do it though.

I'm definitely done with Keefe, personally speaking.

Have a hard time getting back behind Dubie too at this point. And I have been a stalwart Dubie supporter for a long time.

They may still succeed, but anything other than a Cup I don't really care about at this point, and in my view would be in spite of themselves.

If we play our best six d-men on a consistent basis, I'd maybe reconsider. But how many times can you repeat the same mistakes over and over again before you get fed up and try something different?

A cup win and I'll toss out the nerdies, grab a Schenn jersey and be a staunch gudpro advocate.

I'd be wrong to do so. But emotions can be powerful.

for me at minimum they would have to beat Tampa and Boston. that's a pretty high bar for redemption, but that's what happens when you lose the way the Leafs have. they put themselves in that position, not us the fans. if they had won 2 or 3 of these last 6 rounds, the entire context of this is totally different.

yeah, not unfair.

The moves they made were all to fit their vision of a team that is really hard to play against. So if it works and they win its a bit disingenuous to say they were wrong and would have won anyway.

Also, all of ROR, Acciari, McCabe and Gus have good nerdies, so I am not sure that "anti analytic" is the right way to frame the criticism.

Trading Sandin, adding Schenn --> anti analytics
Of every single bottom 6 forward, picking Engvall to trade --> anti analytics as absolute fuck

If they win the cup, great. They should. But it won't be because they decided to not add to their forward group. Or play Schenn and scratch Liljegren. I can promise you that.

Yeah, but they traded Sandin for a guy who everyone thinks sucks but has elite analytics.

Truccultics is better. They definition didn't ignore stats.
