Trade Deadline Thread

well we don't really know if the engvall and sandin moves were analytics moves. they might have been ,depending on what the team's numbers say.

the Engvall move bothers me less than the Schenn one.

the Sandin one just confuses me.

fucking Luke Schenn. christ.

i think they moved engvall because he's soft as baby shit, they wanted less of that in the bottom 6 and he was probably easier to move than kerf.

i would've preferred for them to move kerfoot too obv.
this is all well and good, but who is his replacement? ZAR or Gustafsson? hardly playoff stalwarts there.

Definitely yeah. They wanted more compete and Engvall, while you are essentially losing Kampf too by trading him (2 for 1 if you look at any advanced metric on earth), doesn't provide the grit, truculence or even motor that Keefe wants.

And that's fine maybe if they added in another trade afterwards. But they didn't so his loss will obviously be felt.

I don't have any problem with trading Sandin/Engvall on the whole - it's the timing that appears bizarre given that it feels like they are losing depth at an important time. But I do think that they feel that both have been adequately replaced by McCabe and Acciari/Lafferty. I also think that with the number of players coming in (6 that can't be waived), that they needed to clear contract spots before the deadline.

Here's a complete list of the IN/OUTS at the deadline, sorted by "value":

Is there any way for Dubas and Keefe to redeem themselves here for you guys or have they lost you even if they had a long playoff run?

I've been slowly losing faith in the nerd for roughly 18 months now, I just fundamentally disagree with this low skill gritensity shit being the optimal way to win. Adding some of it that can play hockey is a nice element to add to a team but when I look at the majority of cup winners over the last 10 years or so I see a whole lot of 6'0 190 pound guys in depth roles that are some combination of fast, hard to play against, and chip in offensively making up the bulk of the supporting cast. Shaw, Bolland, Frolik, Kruger, Saad, 34 yr old Richards, Teravainen, Versteeg. In Pittsburgh it was Bonino, Sheary, Rust, Kunitz, Hagelin, Hornqvist, Cullen. Tampa a similar gang as well.

The only real deviations are Washington and St Louis, and I'd argue that those were the two most luck driven cup runs of the batch. Everyone else seemed to focus on having skill in their depth that could do a bit of everything, but had high motors/compete level. I just don't see Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Acciari, Lafferty, ZAR being even close to similar in quality as those groups above. Either some skill coupled with being baby backed bitches or hard to play against with 4th line skill.

But it really seems that this is exactly what we want, this stupid 6/6 setup where all of the offence is expected out of the top 6 and the bottom 6 is just supposed to not get caved in and be "hard to play against".

Let's be real, we're all gonna accept facials from Doob and Keefe if they win a cup. All logic goes out the window when that happens. I'd love to say I won't forgive them for making Schenn a regular or subtracting but not adding to their depth in their final flurry of trades, but win a cup and there's no sense in over-analyzing anything. They can deposit their loads all over me.

this is probably true for me too.

but also, I'm probably just gonna be sour about it for a while. like I don't know when I would start beleafing again.

maybe it's better this way. under-promise, overdeliver.

I'm fine with a Dubkakke but it is 100% contingent on them winning the Cup
