OT: American Politics

I always fine it funny that politicans are not allowed to grow as people. Flip flopping is somehow a bad thing. The only bad thing is that you ignore knowledge and stump your growth.

Yup. It's fake Christianity and borders on idol worship with its veneration of non-God figures. And I'll say whatever I want about the depraved, corrupt Catholic Church that represents the worst of organized religion.

I will say this much, the opulence of the Vatican while beautiful was at the same time disgusting to my wife who is a lapsed catholic. All that money is like a pyramid scheme where it all ends up in the Vatican

i repeat that most of my arguments against gay marriage are sociological, not religious.

It's funny.

I know religious people who are for it.
I know non-religious people who are for it.
But every single person I've ever met who's been against it, just so happens to also describe themselves as a Christian.

I find that to be an incredible coincidence.

he didn't duck it in 2008, he said he was for a man and woman marriage only. He probably didn't have alot of gay people in his life back then.

cmon, PA. you don't believe that, do you? you're not actually buying his crap about sitting down with his daughters and changing his view on the subject? in 2008 when he was trying to portray himself as post-partisan, post-racial, and safely moderate, it was very convenient for him to throw "the gays" under the bus. now, 4 years later, when he's more worried about shoring up his lefty base, it is extremely convenient for him to suddenly be converted.

the man has no principles. when it was convenient to avoid supporting gay marriage, he did that. now when he wants to appeal to lefties that he feels he might have disappointed, he's come out in support of it. it didn't take "guts", it took rat cunning.

accusing everyone who disagrees with you of being intolerant, pretty much solely because they disagree with you...again, as you would like to say, "non sequitur"

wrong. absolutely wrong. i can honestly understand why some would support gay marriage and they aren't "intolerant" for doing so. i disagree with them, but that doesnt make them intolerant.

i accuse people of being intolerant when they say the virgin mary was a whore, that religious people are all stupid f*cking zombies, and that 1.4 billion indians are savages because they mostly don't like gay marriage and they don't use toilet paper.

You can reject it all you want, I really do think in 40 years the majority of people in our society will think it's ridiculous that some people spoke out against gay marriage with such enthusiasm. You can see the tide changing already.

This doesn't make any sense.

They can't be intolerant specifically because they are supporting an inclusive idea. There's no circumstance under which you could claim that people in favour of greater tolerance towards the marginalized are intolerant.

No you don't. You do it because you're trying to use it as a trump card to deflect from the absurdity of your ideas.

nope. i reject this utterly. this is the equivalent of calling you a sick, deviant pervert for supporting gay marriage.

We know you reject it.

Which is why your position is going to look so hilarious and bigoted in history, just like those who argued in favour of slavery, and who wanted to maintain Jim Crow.

maybe, maybe not. but that doesnt mean those of us who support the traditional definition of marriage are the equivalent of 60's segregationists.

you "won" what? there are over a billion of us catholics and we are the fastest growing christian denomination. how many of you presbyterians are there?

Catholicism actually is experiencing a demographic crisis because the majority of its adherents are old and the traditional strongholds in Asia and Latin America are rapidly becoming more Protestant at a rate far outstripping the usual Catholic majority.

who's deflecting? the person calling me a stupid mindless zombie for being religious, or the person calling the virgin mary a whore, or me, for calling out people who do that as being "intolerant"? i think the answer there is pretty clear.
