So, my take is just as CH has posted from Dom. We needed offense, but spent the last expendable capital to get a dman we don't really need. The D is better, but by that much with Sandin being the one bumped out? Very questionable unless McCabe is going to be some incredible presence back there. Offensively, doesn't bring much - we still have nobody (other than seemingly Lilly) who can score goals back there. Defensively, I dunno, you all seem to be saying the numbers show he did great with what he had to work with in Chicago. Definitely getting him in his prime years, signed for super cheap with the retention, is a nice thing to have. We're better, but I don't know if it's material, and if it is, it buries a really good asset in Sandin.
Having looked at it, I changed my mind and think there's definitely another move coming. They're not going to just waste Sandin as a #7. And Dubie has to know he needs more offensive threats up front. Kerf is a nifty player to have, love that speed, but with him expiring, Sandin pushed to the sidelines, and a big gaping hole on 2LW...there's one more domino that will fall.
Maybe it is Garland, but with Dubie he always seems to do something other than the obvious. Does Sandin, Kerf, and a prospect get you a pretty good young top 6 winger? Probably. Have to think Dubie is working on that as his final stroke.
Speaking of final strokes, losing in the first round after all this would probably kill most of us.
