Cross one coach off Seattle’s list. Larry Brooks reports, and Pierre LeBrun confirms, that Gerard Gallant has been hired as the Rangers coach.
Not sure Gallant was ever going to do the expansion tango again. New York seemed a natural fit for him. You know ... the kind of franchise that will pay a lot, promise you whatever control you want to get you hired and then do absolutely whatever they want and leak bad things about you to the press if you aren't happy about it.

Or, as Keith Olberman put it, Gallant works for Goofus

That series is going to be over quickly. Any of those North division teams would have gotten crushed by Vegas. Montreal would have missed the Eastern conference playoffs by a lot if we had the usual setup.

Habs earned their spot in this round by beating who they had to, but now it's time to evaluate the divisions against each other. Reality check... The North? Not good at all.

Lucas Wallmark is headed back to Europe, signing with CSKA Moscow, according to the Elite Prospects transfer Twitter account.

Talk about playing your way into a game. Vegas looked terrible early and dominant late. And yes, I broke my hockey fast out of pure curiosity. There's nothing I like about seeing a team with Vegas' talent hunker down in a neutral zone trap and choke the life out of a game, but you have to admit that they do it well.

LeBrun says that Gallant’s contract with the Rangers is believed to be 4 years at $3.5 million per.

That's a lot of money for a guy who's never actually won anything. Then again, it's New York, so what do you expect I guess.

He won the Memorial Cup in 2011 and the Western Conference in 2018. Other than that, a lot of meh.

Yeah. I'm not saying he's bad or anything, in fact I really like the way Gallant runs a team. But that kind of money is generally reserved for experienced guys with bigger rings than you get from winning the Mem Cup.

Pekka Rinne won the King Clancy last night. Oskar Lindblom won the Masterton.
Those fit. Lindblom was always going to win the Masterton, like to the point that I'm not sure other teams really mounted much of a campaign for their guys. Rinne looks to be on his way out of Nashville and has done a lot of community work. That's the profile for the way the Clancy has been awarded in recent years.

The Jack Adams winner will be announced tomorrow, Selke on Friday and Lady Byng on Saturday. The others won’t be announced until the Finals. It will be interesting to see where Staal finished for the Selke.
