2022-23 Canes Misc. Thread

Yeah, Marek is at least honest when he's just spit-balling. Would that 90% of his colleagues would take the hint

LeBrun just said Canes are still looking for another forward at the right price point (aka nothing new to report).

Yup. And remember, since everybody else is getting retention that puts the Canes in the general neighborhood of a cap hit of $5.2 million AAV (if they get 50% retention and don't move salary off the roster in the deal).

Just curious...is Kase on IR or can you move him to LTIR and can use his $800K or so cap hit if needed to add to that $2.6 m available?

He's already on LTIR, so there's no cushion there. The Canes currently don't have anyone on regular IR.

With the Canes D effectively leading the scoring the past couple of weeks, if you are wondering what the franchise's NHL record is for most goals scored in a season by Defenseman, the number is 51, accomplished by the Whalers in each of their first 2 NHL seasons.

In 1979-80, Mark Howe, Al Sims and Gordie Roberts had 42 of the 51 goals scored by Dmen
In 1980-81, Mark Howe, Al Sims and Thommy Abrahamsson had 42 of the 51 goals scored by Dmen

The Canes record is 48, set in 2018-19 (Dougie Hamilton, Justin Faulk and Jaccob Slavin had 37 of those).

We can certainly expect the Canes Dmen this season to fall off their blistering pace of the past 2 weeks. The Dmen have scored 14 goals in the past 8 games. But the Canes and franchise records are definitely in jeopardy. The Canes Dmen already have 30 goals scored in 45 games which would put them on pace to finish with 55 goals.

Checking back on this with Slavin and Gostisbehere scoring goals tonight. That brings the Canes DMen to 39 goals in 60 games. Their full season pace has slowed to 53 but they are still on a franchise record pace.

Riston Stiltanen (83-84) and Justin Faulk (2014-15) are 9th and 10th respectively on the list of most goals scored in a season by a Canes/Whalers defenseman. Burns is currently at 12 with 22 games to play.

Our old friend Dougie Hamilton is 4th on the same list with 18 back in 2018-19... a total which his has currently matched in New Jersey this year, if anyone cares...

Starting this weekend, our schedule for the rest of March is... tough. Rangers, Devils, Leafs twice each, plus Boston and Tampa again. I hope we can stay healthy.

Looks like Leafs deadline acquisition Ryan O’Reilly is out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand.

Home and Home with the Rangers 3/21-23. That game on 3/21 kicks of a stretch of 5 games in 8 days, all against the teams you name.

Edit: O’Reilly has a broken finger and is going on LTIR.

I'm interested in those games with the Leafs. The Canes haven't played them since November and a lot has changed for both teams since then. Everybody else in that pile should seem pretty familiar
