2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

I’m not sure it was more square footage as it was a desire to make more desirable space available for other uses. If you’re creating public space, would you rather have a view of Carter Finley or the north parking lot? And those floors are serviced by elevators directly off the box office and VIP lobby, making external access easier if they were turned into public spaces.
At one point they were looking to put the sports book in the existing restaurant space and expand that area ... which would have cut into the offices some. I think they just found that buying the restaurant across the street vastly more cost effective for right now ... and that wasn't part of the early plans I saw. The other thing I saw in the 2018 focus group stuff was a plan to use some of the office space for an expanded premium lounge area, but they seem to be looking at loge space inside the lower bowl now since their survey info has leaned towards demand for seating with premium services instead of more lounge options. I understand that they've also changed the plans for those center ice/center court areas ... whatever the heck they call them now. Bottom line, it's a different plan to plus up premium seating than back when they were setting up the construction priorities back before pandemic ... and costs have gone through the roof in the meantime, and they continue to do so on a monthly basis. It's easy to flex on the team use space because they've already got what they need ... and they can use off-site space for sales staff easily enough if required.

They also considered putting the sports book in The Eye but the kitchen is right above it. I don’t know why that would preclude putting the sports book there, but whatever. I’m a bean counter, not an architect. I very rarely hit the south side anymore, what does the box office area look like on game days? Could they put the sports book there and reduce the number of windows, or is there still a big walk up demand?

Who here (besides me) still has the "Are You Ready?" T-shirt or ticket? I also have a sweatshirt from the Hurricane's first ever game against the Pen in Greensboro...and lots of other 'Canes memoribilia.

The Eye is too small for game day as it is, and they make pretty decent money on merch. That restaurant upstairs? A black hole. Box office is kind of crowded pre-game, but they really only need those transaction windows for playoff distribution ... and now that everything's electronic they really don't need it then either. That's basically wasted public space at this point, and I'd think you'll see changes there. And honestly, I think the big commercial kitchen upstairs is probably toast once they figure out the layout going forward. That never went they way they planned right from the beginning.

The pre-game buffet in the Arena Club used to be decent. But then they raised prices to a ridiculous level and made dessert a la carte. No thanks.

I think Jeffbear just meant that the knee probably isn't 100%, and now he likely has a bruised/broken rib on top of that.
Svech hasn't been hitting which made me wonder about the knee, or at least how comfortable he feels on it.

Nailed it. He's not been hitting the speed button much this year and has gotten himself into enough awkward positions to make me think that Svech's mobility is still impacted by the knee. To be expected to some degree, I guess. We act like that was just a regular injury/surgery, but he played on a messed up knee for almost a whole year before it crapped out on him. There's a price for that.

Per team reporter Walt Ruff "Following the #Canes' morning skate in Ottawa, Rod Brind'Amour says that Andrei Svechnikov (upper-body injury) will be "out for at least a while" after yesterday's MRI."

Nardella was the Chicago Wolves owners' bagman on staff for a lot of years. No great surprise to see that he's been over his head as the head coach, but it's always a surprise to see an adult lose their crap quite that hard.
