2024 NHL Playoffs Thread

Seems obvious when one looks at the before and after stats. Lekhonen is who he is, but his circumstances changed dramatically to say the least.
Traded a nice complimentary 3rd liner who was a year away from netting 4+ mil , on a team going nowhere

He would still be a 30-35 point player on this team on a bad contract with Armia and others.

I thought the bar on here was always where the hab player in question would play on a contender? Many on here said that his ceiling was a 3rd liner. Fact is Leky is no 3rd liner on a contender.. I have always liked Leky, strong on the puck, great stick, excellent hockey sense, gritty, heavy shot, plays an excellent 2 way game.. I am not surprise he is doing well.. he isn't doing well because he is playing with elites (lol) .. he doing well because he is a good hockey player that has come into his own..

I always found that argument funny as well, where one would slot on a contender. Well I guess for Lehkonen it’s on the first line. People forget modern reality, you need complimentary players to balance your lines. He’s been excellent.

I think the team matters. That said, I think playing in the Habs was a drag on his performance. That in no way has any bearing on the trade, which should be viewed through a team building lens.

Let’s put it this way: he can hold his own with elite players. Not everyone can do that - Josh Anderson (who we need to remind ourselves was a 4th round pick in a shitty draft.)

Of course the team matters but so does the player, Leky went from a "complimentary 3rd liner" to a 1st liner (in part) and a playoff "clutch" player. His playoff performance speaks to him and not the team.

Nice player , but on a bad team can`t have his cap hit rot with other shit contracts

Wrong player for the wrong team at the wrong time

Hugo got a fair deal

the Habs are loaded with complimentary players

Barron will have a 10 year career and that second round pick could be used as trade bait or be on our roster

Because he got cap relief in addition to the player and the pick. We can’t lose sight at how messed up the books were in 21-22.

As far as Lekhonen is concerned, it would be interesting to see his production with line mates who are 50% xgf. He was clearly dragged down in Montreal. But he’s getting a boost in Colorado.

If Barron has a 10 years career, no issues.

I don't think any of us are lamenting letting Lehkonen go. I think some are disappointed by what we got in return for one of our better asset that we didn't need to trade at the time. But that's also the risk you have trading for prospects, sometimes you get Suzuki or Danault, and other times you get Heinemen and Barron.
