Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

for me it's the constant "we wouldn't have made it other seasons." Who cares, we did and were within a bad giveaway by Ben of going home tied in the Finals. After the covid shit, it was a glorious spring. Too bad Legault was a pussy and didn't allow the Bell Centre to be full for the Final.
Me too,.. Gee is a smart hockey guy so that is why i don't get his stance on this.

I take it as he's to proud to back down or just doesn't see that we understand what he's saying but disagree and won't agree because the only place it's wrong is in his head.

One of the reasons I love coming here is the hockey knowledge from a lot of posters, Gee included; plus the wise cracks from posters that keep me chuckling and i get all the rumors in one spot..

If I didn't feel he had something to contribute it would be different.

Even the other one is the lightning rod for people to snap at.

I don't think anyone opinon is worthless, I just get tired of hearing it over and over again.

The facts / reality of the situation is they did.

sure Fla would not have made the playoffs this year had Chi not won…but Panthers did make the playoffs, does that make their run any less meaningful?
Panthers made the playoffs in a normal 82 game season , not a video game format with 56 games and not playing 2/3 of the league

The reason UFA don't sign in a particular town is this mentality. The don't give a fuck, fuck the fans which also means fuck the players, do it or go mentality is BS. Bergevin got players that didn't want to play in Canada for one year deals to try to get the retiring players a cup. They almost did it. Now the league knows Bergevin gives a shit about players. That's currency that you and the other Tweedle never figured out how to use. You couldn't make a persuasive argument if your life depended on it and that my friend is the key to success, making others see things your way when they haven't before and that's not done by ramming crap down people's throats. While they are assets, players are human assets.

So please already, take your adolescent understand of human emotion and reaction elsewhere, really tired of it. Not your fault, you're blind to it. I'm sure there's plenty that I'm blinded to, but just stop because it is like dealing with my children all over again.
Pretending that the Habs deserved to be a playoff team in 2020 and 2021 and that their Cup finals run was anything other than a one-off fluke backed up by nothing real is the definition of "ramming crap down people's throats". The Habs were already a garbage team with a garbage GM and a garbage coach who got into the post season on a once in a lifetime technicality and then got lucky for 6 weeks. As soon as the run ended they immediately went back to being garbage the following season. Merit had nothing to do with it.

Bergevin is the reason terms like "dumb" luck exist. Because he's a fucking mental midget who could only succeed at anything by accident.

Why is it wrong for Gee to say the Habs caught an improbable random heater during their fun Cup run a few years ago?

Now, they tore it down in order to build what we hope is a sustainable multi-year stab at winning it all.

I am happy that both of the above happened.
Hugo will built a sustainable year in and out competitive team , in the contending conversation at some point

Both, according to my villain 80's sports movie coach persona.

In any case, my guess is in a regular season with tougher competition, they probably finish off the season better to end up with a good record, but with less gas for the playoffs.
In a regular season with tougher competition they'd have been a lottery team.

This debate is pure comical

A 24th place team was heading toward a top 5 pick and a tear down with a new regime

The same garbage team is now in a tear down

Nobody falls apart like like after a finals appearance , the team hung on with needles and drugs to keep Price and Weber standing up

Most of the remaining roster was either garbage or on its way out

Why would Hugo already dump 2/3 of that team getting closer to 3/4 if players had any value

So let me get this straight, only Habs played the 2021 season in a video game format no other NHL team correct?

Frank Seravalli is reporting that Vancouver is going to be buying out Oliver Ekman-Larsson's contract.

I think the owner would have much prefered if OEL had a mysterious career-ending injury that required him to be on LTIR, and at least then the insurances could have paid it off.

But all in all, in Bettman's NHL, it'll make Vancouver less financially competitive, but the owner isn't going to be spending more overall.
