Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

What is a RS salary slot ?
Teams are allowed to retain salary on a maximum of 3 contracts at all times.

So for example, when we traded Dadonov to Dallas, we retained 50% of his deal. We were also the third team in the Bonino trade, where he was traded from San Jose to Montréal, then from Montréal to Pittsburgh and we retained 50% of his salary. We received San Jose's 2024 5th pick for that.

Had we chosen to, we could have retained salary on another contract. Now because both Dadonov & Bonino's contracts are completed, we now have three slots to retain salary next year should we choose to do that.

Arizona, on the other hand, will be restricted to two slots for the next eight years because of the OEL buyout.

So basically 3 contracts over the 50 limit or whatever it is

Not really. Those contracts aren't on the team anymore. The salary retention was added to help facilitate trades.

So when Toronto traded Kessel to Pittsburgh, they retained $1.2M of his caphit until the end of his contract. He wasn't playing with the team anymore, they just had $1.2M of dead money for a number of years.

Dana White's a gigantic piece of shit, but he's not an idiot. He's also 100% right about the NHL:

Maybe we can get him for pick 31
That would be basically getting him for free....but even then, do we wanna go through the Drouin scenario again, where we know this won't work out, but we still try to force it because he's Quebecois and because he've ''married'' ourselves to him (and the contract we will give him)

Drouin, Lafrenière, Kakko.....they all fall into the Paarjavi scenario....although Drouin-Lafrenière have put up better number

Lafreniere has a bit of an edge to his game, at least he is not shy to get physical.
