Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I'd still give up our second first round pick to get Lafrenière.

Hasn't worked out in New York and I don't know why, but I'd give him a real shot here.
Agreed - Lafreniere’s size & physicality / board battle game would complement Suzuki & Caufield seamlessly IMO

I was reading NY articles trying to understand, because he was such a great junior, and mostly they mention his edge work and balance is all off, as well as his play off the puck. There is some concerns on his work ethic and desire to improve on those flaws as well as there has been little progress in 3 years.

All of the above leads to the same inflection point ….HuGo’s double down bet on MSL being a hockey player whisperer

Just sayin..

No issues trading Panthers for him and hoping a new environment + coaching staff turn him around. But Montreal might not be the best place for a soon to be French Canadian bust to turn things around.

I was never amazed at his junior game

Average speed, no lethal shot , etc...

I pegged him having a RNH ceiling type career , didnt expect this

Needs a change of scenery , might as well get decent value now hoping a team thinks highly of him .

One more bad season he is worth a ham sandwhich

He was scouted as a hi IQ player who makes his linemates better…. that doesn’t always translate like an elite shot or great wheels

I'm I'm favor of getting him when his value is down but mostly because I'm pretty certain he'll pan out better than anyone we draft at 31. And let's remember that he was drafted by Gorton. Gorton knows this player inside and out.

If any coach out there can get this kernel of corn to pop it's MSL. And if he does pop, well, who needs PLD?

Gallant has never been known as a detail oriented coach he’s a rah rah type, whereas, MSL is technically very detailed and some players (especially this generation of younger demographic) respond better to the latter type of coach which Lafreniere’s never had during his pro career

Every indication on Lafrenière was that based on his pedigree, he was poised to be an elite NHL winger and maybe even be a HHOFer when his career was done.

So, what happened? Was it a case of having a notable size advantage in Junior which gave him an edge? Is he not taking his career seriously? Did he just stagnate?

Regardless, Lafrenière to me is worth the risk.

I think people are underestimating Lafreniere's value because of his "bust status".

He's worth more than Dach at last year's draft. I think Rangers will do it for the 5th only and unless we're drafting Michkov I do it.

He still has loads of upside with size and skill, he's just being buried on a deep Rangers team.

I’m sorry, who are you taking about?

I only want him if his value has descended to bust status.... aka 31 overall

I mean for all of his faults he would have been our 2nd best scorer last year (mostly because he played 81 games) but he would have also been our 4th best player at even strength after Suzuki, Caufield and Monahan (using per 60 mins production).

He's not worth more than Dach mon ami, Dach is a center and likely goes ahead of Lafreniere that year. I think he is under valued but he's not worth more because he was 1OA.
