Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Flyers have lost 5 in a row giving up 5+ goals in 4 of those games.

Game scores: 4-7, 3-5, 3-6, 0-3, 2-6 (today)

27GA in 5GP = 5.4 GA / GP

Since Carter Hart took “indefinite leave of absence” - 21GA in 4GP = 5.25 GA / GP (Ersson was brought into Avs game in 3rd period and gave up 1GA)

5pts up on NJD & Caps who hold 4 & 3 games in hand respectively

I'm of the opinion that both things should happen.

Contract lengths need to be capped at a smaller length (ideally, 5 years) and true free agency needs to happen sooner.

Those two changes, by themselves, would drastically improve the league almost overnight once these 8 year deals that have been grandfathered in start expiring.

You cannot have a league rolling at maximal efficiency and capacity when teams are in metaphorical jails due to albatross contracts.
The current rules are working well. The Leafs haven't accomplished a fucking thing since the cap was instituted. I'm not in favor of any changes that will punish their poor management less, or permit them to fix their mistakes sooner. Let them keep screwing themselves.

salary cap is a ton to give up, free agency is restrictive until 27, cap on individual salary

should be a soft cap or ability to exceed foe two players you drafted
Has Gally given up a nickel for playing like a stiff

These players now are treated like royalty , salaries, accommodations, off ice endorsements etc...

Like I said before if you don't like making millions chasing a black object , seek alternate employment and try to make the same money

The players you feel sorry for are the old timers who couldn't make this money to retire comfortably

Requiring second jobs and probably not even getting proper medical treatment now for their ailments

A fucken stiff can carve out 20 mil and be set for life by 35 , players have nothing to bitch about

and the billionaire owners have something to bitch about?

So the owners need protection from themselves to stop overpaying for mid talent?

Fuck that!
Well, yeah. Duh.

More like they need protection from being leveraged.

Why do you think there are provisions already in the CBA that have limits on contract lengths and how much can be spent?

The problem with the NHL is that talent is scarce. Most of the planet doesn’t skate, yet the league has as many franchises (soon more!!!!) as other pro leagues that draw from a much larger base of potential players.

And so by the time the 20th pick in the draft rolls around, teams are hoping they can land a solid 200 ft playing 3rd liner.
I actually disagree.

Talent is scarce relative to soccer. Sure. But so is every other sport on the planet.

But you know a sport that actual has a scarcity of talent? Basketball. If you aren't 6'4" or so, your chances of making the NBA are virtually non-existent. And even then, 6'4" in the NBA ain't big.

Simply comes down to....stop handing out bad contracts

Bigger issue is your fucked trying to get out of them later

Teams have no flexibility when you hand the keys to asylum to the players
I can resume your post in a couple of words: I don't understand how the business of pro sports work.

Which is fine. But spare me with this "just don't give out bad contracts" spiel.
