Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

By the way, here's a small nugget of information for you all to think about:

The less rights athletes have, the better the product is for the fans.

If you disagree, ask yourself why the NFL and college football rule North America. Also, if you like combat sports like I do, why is the UFC product infinitely better than boxing?

Sad but true. The NHL was a better product back in the days when players had no power and got paid peanuts. Fans (especially fans of Canadian teams) never had to worry about being able to afford or keep their best players and cities like Winnipeg and Quebec didn't have to worry that their teams would relocate.

Unless you were related to or your livelihood depended on the salary of an NHL player, you didn't care if they got paid at all.

As soon as players got the hammer, the first thing they did was demand no trade clauses so they could avoid playing in Canada and paying taxes.

Because they’re events - game is 1/week, which includes tailgate etc

16GP schedule spread over 4-months, with game 1 being just as important as game 16 - fans can plan their lives around event day for a few months a year

That's part of it, sure.

But that's only a minuscule part of it. Football is king in America because of the product.

Would football be as good (and more importantly, popular) as it is if it wasn't so easy to get rid of players who are under-performing?
