Habs acquire Alex Newhook

Not just that, he couldn't become the #3 center. It's why Colorado traded for Eller. He had two (full) seasons with sheltered play and he couldn't step up to fill in the gaps when needed.

Meanwhile, for Dach & Caufield, who are the same age, both had massive progression this season.

He isn't a center. Needs to be on wing to have a chance.

I would of let the draft play out and maybe pounce on a player that slipped in the 18-23 range for 31 and 37 and maybe a prospect

we'll never know what other teams were offering but I'm sure we were competing with someone for his services

If he can produce 20/50 I'll be satisfied, especially if he hits.

Don't assume they were only talking to the Habs about him. Hughes says if you like the player then get them. Likely had to sweeten it to get it done so now he is Hughes guy like Kerfoot was Dubas'.
